You don't have to activate the smart features on smart TV. But I can see that you wanna save the dollars
Good point. But I think I would temporarily activate to update. But doesn't updating end after 5 years?

I have an old smart TV never interested in smart part. Who is the smart thing once to just see what it was like. Then disconnected it. It works fine as a TV

However if you have a spy issue Somebody can use a remote hack To use the cameras on the TV to spy on you. Range issues make houses semi imune But a condo omplex probably has maybe 100 units that are range to hack.

For the creepiness alone it might be worthwhile a dub tv. they exist

You also don't need to connect the smart TV to the internet with a Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. You can't hack a device is it's not connected to the Internet even if you're in a condo. You can also turn off WiFi in the smart TV settings.

If you're worried about cameras on the TV, just don't buy one with a camera or put a piece of tape on it.

Only if the security is weak or non existent in your home network.
Lol I had 1 of the most sophisticated security systems available including landline military style cut off. Whivh worked when i eas zombified. Just last week the Toronto virus libarry system was hacked Which has far better security and staff than the average user.
Yes I'm sure out of all the Toronto sites the library system is the weakest because of it's public nature What most people have accidental back doors like this. People use their phones on the public TTC public WiFi for example Opening your system. It only takes 10 seconds of being sloppy We're trusting the wrong network.

I have no idea what you mean by having a landline military style cut off. A security system is only as strong as its weakest link and it depends on how knowledgeable you are with its features.

I heard about what happened at the Toronto Public Library, but not sure about the specifics or if their security is better or worse than the average user. The library obviously has a lot more people using it and that makes it a bigger target.

Fact still remains that if you're concerned about built-in webcams on TV's, then don't buy one. I did a quick search and it looks like that most TV's don't even have built-in cameras. Likely because the average person doesn't want that feature or manufacturers don't include it as it increases their costs.

I just find them on the curb, and drag them home and use with an external OTA tuner.
If too dim, I spring for a backlight kit and fit it for a few bucks and a few hours at the dining table on a Sunday morning.

Have a Sony 55" and a 68" too. Both are KDL era.
And their internal tuner board as it ages design fault that if internal tuner used, locks up the TV CPU.
