Islanders are a better team than Toronto...

keep in mind that the October schedule is never friendly to Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Buffalo Markets as they are cities that draw a crowd before US Thanksgiving in November...

my guess is that their first regulation time game win will be the 28th against Dallas

What I want to know is, wot happened?

Did Richard Peddie and OTPP meddle again.

Birke said he was building for the future, then he trades two 1-rounders for a broken down player that may not score 20 goals this season. Then Birke adds insult to injury by proclaiming that the Leafs will never finish near the lottery pick again.

...classic case of meddling if you ask me.

i'm not a big Birkie fan but I can tell you that he will never allow one of the MLSE bureaucrats to meddle with HIS hockey operation. It will never happen with him. He would quit before that happened.

The monster looked pretty shaky in the second period last night.

way out in left field
I said this in another thread: but what happened to that go getter team that we saw in the pre-season? WTF was that last night?

Most of the players just drifting around and has Grabasskey and Ponakarofsky actually done anything lately?

the go getter, got up and went. LOL..

I caught the second period before I had to leave. I was more focused on monster in goal, and he was out of place on a number of plays. Thought I was watching Justin Pogge for a while there. Seriously, the one goal he seemed to have lost the puck for 30 seconds. Another time, he was so far to the left side of the net on a shoot in, that he was lucky to get back in position.

Personally, I think this is a good start for our team because it brings everyone back to reality.

My concerns were:
1. Our upgraded D-men did not look very good in all 3 games so far.
There seems to be some real communication problems.
2. Vesa has already been shown the bench, and monster looked shaky
in the period that I watched.

I would rather have a team start slow, and finish strong than the other way around.

The formula has worked great for the Leafs in recent yeras haan't it? Slow start, put themself in a huge hole, then a good finish to get fairly close to the playoffs, and wreck the draft position.

Good point ... The Leafs in the Last couple of seasons started off good and we were praising coaches Paul Maurice and last year Wilson and Heck JFJ even got a contract extension once cause he had a good November and December ..
Depends if you are looking at the start of the season as 5 or 30 gmaes. If you use the latter they have not had good starts.

You and I must have different perceptions of what a slow start means, and what a strong finish means.

Without going into much detail or wasting my time thinking about it too much, a slow start would getting 40% of the available points after 20 or so games.

A strong finish has not been seen in these parts since the days of Doug Gilmour.
What the Leafs have done the last couple of years would not qualify as a strong finish.

Look to what the Twins did if you want an example of a strong finish.

Oh.. and I expect better from you Maurice93, I know that you already know this stuff.

MLSE should buy the Coyetes and move them to Toronto ..
Speaking of the Coyetes, are the other 29 owners funding the operating expenses of the Coyetes? If I am an owner, I would be pissed that I have to contribute my money to fund a competitor:mad:.

Just think if the Leafs finish last they just gave the first overall pick to Boston. If the season turns out to be a disaster it's time to fire Burke and Wilson. I say Leafs go 10 games without a win.

It's all probability

When your best player leaves (Sundin) and draft pick continue to be traded away, it's only a matter of time before the team goes into free fall. That's why the Phil Kessel trade is such a looming disaster, he's not the type of player that can turn around a punch drunk team.

Ron Wilson forced the Leafs to play over their heads last season. This gave the team a flase sense of optimism for this season. Unfortunately Wilson is so demanding that he gets tuned out quickly. With the deals he's already made Birke is powerless to stop the slide. I can see the Leafs losing 20 of their first 30 games.:(
