Considering it as my next purchase anyone out there ever had one

It was ENgland's response to the Beetle as a working man's car

The latest version is made by BMW since 2001

It is a small car but can easily fit 4 with headroom and looks nice inside

Easy on gas and back seats fold for room

With snow tires I heard it performs like a mountain goat

163 HP Cooper engine O to 100km in 8 seconds and corners great with its low center of mass and traction controls

In my test drive I did not like sitting so low in something that was not a sports car but it is nice inside with well displayed dash and a stereo that rocks

Many reports of mechanical issues, WAY over priced for what you get, horrible resale value.

Keep looking.

Mini

I just finished my three year lease with Mini -best car I ever owned - need a bigger car now - don't count on the 4 people - maybe 4 spinners -but not 4 full sized people. Plenty of space - and awesome in the winter

You need to fill with premium gas, there goes your fuel savings.
Despite that, I know several people who love them.

Yup, and they don't perform all that well compared to other makes and models. I think a comparison was made to the Matrix and the Matrix won hands down........

BR: I would never 100% trust a previous or current owner's opinion. There aren't many who would say: it was the worst car I ever owned.......

I'd read as much as you can about it and then make your decision. I'd also look into why you're looking at it. Size? options? appearance? name? yuppieness?

If I was in the market for a small sporty car I'd be going for something like:

Recently there were a number of owners that contacted CTV in Toronto complaining of transmission issues. The biggest issue was that they aren't repairable so if you blow one out the new one costs roughly $10K. These cars were mostly in the 100-110km range.

Check out the CTV website to see if the videos are on the site.

Came that close to leasing one, but backed off. Design concerns with the spare tire in the Cooper S, there wasn't one. run flat tires were their answer only the limited range of run flats and the replacement costs said no way Maintenance-wise it's a BIMMER, not cheap. The biggest thing was many trannie problems reported, if something went wrong you had to replace the whole thing. The company decided this was the best way to handle transmission repair. They don't repair them they replace them $10-14,000. this was 2 years ago, they may have smartened up.

I love the car and if you really want it, tell them you've heard of this problem and have them offer to back up the trannies, if they balk you walk. If the transmission was a good one, they'd back it up no question

I heard about this too. The Tranny is not repairable. Someone bought a used one for 15k, and less than 3 months later the tranny went, and they wanted 10K to replace.
