best country for a guy to retire

Retiring is dependent on the person who is doing it. They must have will power to move completely and leave erverything behind. Never to look back.
I have met people here in Canada that have never left their city.
I have met people now that are preparing to move once they retire to Central or South American where they speak Spanish. These people are preparing themselves by taking spanish classes as much as possible, going to spanish church and mingle with the people. Some of these MEN are married but I suspect personally they will leave their woman as much as the wife wants to leave the husband.
I have met people / men that have wife/local wife in latin america tey live and here and are Canadian. One guy visits for 6 months back and forth, another 45 yr old visits wife 3 weeks/year. Wife do not want to move here because of the cold.

Buying property in Latin American is not my recommendation. Besides paying PROPER TAXES you will have to pay these clown bribe money for them to allow you own property, which is a lie, after that they will come and try to extort you money. This is NORMAL IN Latin America. Now if you are in a gated commnunity it is different. Investigate.
I wouldn't buy property because the local woman will get smart and try to divorce you.

If you speak Portugese it should take you 3-6 months to learn Spanish. If not you are not good a Language.
The French should take 9-12 months
The Romanian speaking person same as French
Italian should take 6-9 months.
I met a Swiss that took him 9 months, but he started at 40. Class there and there.

If you don't mind living Frugal you money will go along way in Peru, Bolivia, Cuba, DR(maybe) Cuba for sure as long as they allow you collect your money. I heard it's illegal to have US dollar on hand.

People are people no matter where you go. Even here I get called the N word in this age of time.

Where would I go ? Uruguay , I don't think it's cheap but I have seen some of their woman WOW, blonds. I stay away from Spain. The woman are rough. I thought it was my imagination but some guy verified it and I was right.
Then I move to another place after 6 months.

I stay away from Paraguay, to much robbery I hear. I have seen some of the woman from there at an airport and they were supposedly models. I double looked and said to myself these are models???
I also stay away from Venezuela, I work with some guys from there and they even told me not to go as a tour. Crime like you wouldn't believe.

I think I am better off in florida and live in motels by the week in the winter.

I've seen it in Cuba, and it was a dream come true for a guy. He was a 60yo former teacher from England, she was a local 25yo doctor, very good looking even by local standards, and they already had a 1yo kid...
To have this in England he would need millions, probably tens of millions. In Cuba he was able to do it on a pension.

I'm contemplating the same sort of thing but also wrestling with the same issues as Alex52 mentioned. I've been to the Phillipines and Thailand, not sure what my choice would be. One thing I realize is how much I adore Canada and everything it can offer, such a great quality of life.

A few things to consider:

-you'll most likely have to support her family as well, foreigners are looked at as trophies, and often paraded around the girls village.
-the heat can be fucking unbearable.
-you're socializing with people you don't really know and it could be awkward, and may not be comfortable around them.
-I'd want to have at least 40g per year to live on, these girls want to hook up with a foreigner to live the good life, not on a tight budget, and there's a good chance she won't really love you, she's just sick of shitting in a hole and bathing with cold water. She'll find someone else if you're too broke, they can fall out of love in a blink.
-don't put anything in her name, always rent. I've heard of guys being killed once stuff was put in her name, she's has a Thai boyfriend and next thing you know, you're dead and they're spending your money.
-I've talked to a guy who thought he was having a baby with his gf, turns out the kid was someone elses. Other guys who fell madly in love with a Thai girl, only to find out she has 1 or 2 more bf's, and these guys were devastated.
-another old lonely guy, thai girl treated him great when he lived in england, once she got him to Thailand and got hold of the money, treated him like shit, left him in tears.

Many of these girls are professional swindlers, so you have to be careful who you hook up with. I'm mostly talking about bar girls, not sure what the girls on the internet are like. I found that when I went into the malls or places other than the bars, the girls didn't bat an eye to a foreigner. These girls just look at us as a better life, as opposed to the love of their life.

Many of these girls are broker than broke, and they can give you more misery and heartbreak than any Canadian girl could ever dream of, because some have zero conscience, zilch. Sex to them is a bodily function, like taking a shit for us, it feels good while you're doing it, but once it's over, they're gone and never want to see you again, most of the time.

As I said, I've only experienced bar girls, and many of them will rip your heart out and stomp on it, and not feel a thing. Many guys go over there looking for love, and end up bitter, alcoholics, or both. As you said you're not looking for a prostitute, so if you do do it, don't bother with the bar scene.

I met an American guy who married a girl and he had her low life brother and his wife living on his property, he just shook his head and said, that's what you have to put up with when you marry a Phillipino. On the other hand he was living on the ocean for 5% of what it would cost in the US.

This isn't to deter you, but you should spend at least 6 months somewhere and decide whether it's for you or not. The good thing about the Phillipines is it's cheap and all English. In the Phillipines you have to get used to scorching 35-40 heat every day of the year, there is no relief. I met a guy from Italy who had been there for eight years and he couldn't stand it any longer, he was moving home.

Another thing was the difference of moving from a developed country to a third world, some days I found it depressing, just the visuals and the infrastructure. These places aren't always the paradise you might think they are, and having money to spend makes it much more enjoyable. Trying to raise a family on 20g a year would be difficult and most likely stressful, the last thing you want is stress in a foreign country.

Those immigrants you mentioned were coming to a much better country, Canada. You/I would be moving to a worse country. Don't know if this helps, just my opinions from someone who's been there.

I am not into thais either, although I've seen very hot Koreans, presumably Thais may be just as hot. Panama must be too infested by Americans, and I have heard it's not too convenient for everyday living.

There was the mention of Uraguay. It is south of the equator & a more temperate climate. I have read great reviews that it is a good place & still inexpensive. Punta del Este during the summer season is the party place for upscale Europeans & Americans. very high class. Again the problem is VERY few if any speak english. Most of these places do not have a booming real estate market so rent & leave your capital to earn interest. EXCEPT Dubai , wow, early 2000's a 5000 sq ft house sold for 700k U.S. Thee years later in a soaring market SAME house 2.8 million !!!!!

As far as retiring, Costa Rica (I've been there 27 times & have friends who live there) is now too expensive & is rather dangerous. Colombia would have been my first choice, specifically Medellin, which is a beautiful & relatively cooler place with very hot women. It's also very reasonable, except for things like electronics. However, I've recently read that there was some violence in Medellin again. It's really too bad, Colombia is a beautiful country & the people are wonderful.

Very True. It would be like talking to Rednecks. Now if she was rich or parents are the conversation would be different, but not the greatest. It is depressing when you visit these countries and talk to the people.

This is True I went off the beaten path, a place I know to well and some tourist are venturing out there. I know a girl there and asked her for a date or even some fun to jump in bed she said NO.

As has already been mentioned, retiring to another country with a different language and culture is not for everyone. Judging by your remarks, you are not really open to that kind of experience so you are likely correct that a motel in Florida is more your speed. Good luck with that.

Let's face it, 9 out of 10 people get married and have kids, who then have kids themselves. This, for most people, is reason enough to stay local. Watching grandkids grow up can be a joyful experience and is very important for many people.

I think its a way smaller number who are actually cut out to make that kind of transition. Enjoying 2 weeks in a tropical resort in the middle of the Canadian winter is not the same as leaving your Canadian life behind and relocating to Latin America. Yes, you can live more economically in many places and yes, an affluent lifestyle may enable you to attract a hot young girlfriend, but for a happy life, there needs to be balance, and a hot young gf is only one part of that.

The prostitution or girl scene gets old in a hurry, trust me. It's fun for about 6 weeks, then it's boring. To do that 12 months a year a person has to have absolutley no soul whatsoever. A Thai prostitute even told me this, she said 'this place rots you soul'. This place is full of hookers trying to steal from foreigners and foreigners trying to take advantage of broke hookers by trying to get sex for as little as 10$.

These places are ideal for the guy in his 50's who has raised his kids, gotton divorced and doesn't want the bs of another marriage, just come and go from these places, fuck some young women and enjoy the weather.

The Philipines is a poor country, which means the crime will be high. I know a couple that was kidnapped there and had to withdraw money from the ATM everyday until they were unable to get no more. Online there is a UK TV series called Banged up Abroad which documents a similar story, the couple was on one of the islands in the Phillipines and were also kidnapped for almost a year. Now I do realize this could be isolated cases, it would not stop me from visiting or living in the place if I liked it.

My father's friend moved to Thailand many years ago and is having the time of his life. The place completely rejuvenated him mentally and physically, he also falls into the group of divorced male with grown up children. I like other terbites am not interested in Thailand but from the numerous stories I have heard it sounds like a nice place.

I would prefer someplace in Europe, I hear Croatia is cheap and the women are hot.

There's hot women everywhere, these places are a paradise for the divorced guy whose kids are grown up. It can be torture for the lonely guy looking to start a family and to fall in love. For the divorced guy, the kids can come over and visit and have the time of their life, and Dad can have casual sex with all kinds of women. I wish I was that guy.

Panama is a little more expensive as well. BQ is as hot as the seventh circle of hell, but does have the beaches. You're right about the violence being isolated. President Uribe had beat it back to the jungles in the southwest as far as FARC is concerned; what I was referring to was some gang warfare from local Medellin gangs that caused a gun battle recently.
