So as the title says, some salon in the east end is using my cell number as their business number. I keep getting calls about updating my business listing on Google and yahoo and then business insurance calls. I've found their location and I have driven by a few times and they still haven't had their opening.

Now I'm getting calls from suppliers and people wanting to book appointments.

Besides going in and talking to the manager and or owner are there any other steps I can take so they stop using my number.

I've had this number for over 10 years.

Sounds like a typo somewhere. If the owner has spent a bunch of $$ on listings and signage you may be able to get him to buy the number off you. As far as taking action to prevent the calls, I can't think of anything.

^ Sounds like the best idea. It isn't nice but for your peace of mind you are probably going to have to be the one who changes their number.

Or just sit it out for a while . . . wait for them to open and wonder why their phone isn't ringing.

They'll be in the mood to buy.

Take appointments. Make orders with suppliers. Buy whatever somebody is trying to sell them.

Just wait until people show up for appointments and they are getting bills in the mail.

Cell phone companies have been known to recycle phone numbers, but if you had the mobile for ten years, it's probably an advertising glitch. You should just install a call block app and set it to receive numbers that are only in your contacts.

when someone calls, tell them you are too busy to book them in and tell them to call a different salon!
That will create demand by showing the place is popular.

Just give everybody the date and time they like, no questions asked. It should create pandemonium.

It's almost a certainty the phone company didn't give them your active number. It's got to be the business's mistake. You can harass and inconvenience them as suggested above, or wait until they open and you can walk in. You have the business name now, try to track them down that way. If they also deal with your phone company, you may be able to enlist their help as a goodwill thing. What's done is done, but they'll have every incentive to get potential customers calling the right number.

Is it your number at their location?.....I have a situation where one of my numbers has been recycled by the telco and I get calls for someone who had it a few years ago...he is elderly and hasn't updated his number with various people, including his doctor - I asked they question him on it when he next comes in and haven't had a call form them for a while - perhaps your provider can provide part of the answer?

Lol I think that would count as a compliment or someone is playing a mean prank. There must be away report it and have them stop using your number. In the meantime start making bookings and some extra cash from this for your pain and suffering. I do honestly hope you get this situation sorted out.

Also how much for a mani & pedi? Or is it a hair salon, you didn't specify and that's the most important detail.

Why can't you just go there and talk to them about it, are you afraid or something?

If the owner has invested in advertising.... and he's not getting the calls.... he will want it rectified too. talk to him. When he realizes there has been a mistake he will take steps to correct it fast. Likely correct the advertising with the actual salon #.

Could be a "call spoof": http://www.spoofcard.com/

Call spoof is an app on android that lets you change your phone number when you call others on their call display

Which would mean the salon's spoofing using your number, and those wanting appointments are picking up that number on their caller ID to call back and book.

Highly probable!

Ok I'm going to throw another angle at this just to annoy the masses. Any chance your # spells out there name or something similar and there hoping with all the annoying calls you will drop the # so they can pick it up ?
