One more monkey off his back, now just one more to go, 4:00am live on the tele.
I'd be more interested to watch Eugenie Bouchard play. I think she has a much better chance of being an elite player than Raonic. She is more athletic and has a much more well rounded game.

Plus, I think she is really, really pretty.

Hell why not both. If Raonic wins, those who do the number crunching say he may brake the top 8. Yes she is much prettier.

Completely agree. Genie has a more all-around game. I sort of see similarities between her and Sloane Stephens in that both players have a good combination of offense and defense. At first I thought that maybe Sloane had slightly more firepower off the ground but the more I have seen Genie play the more I think she has equal firepower off the ground as Sloane. I watched her match against Venus late at night earlier in the week and she can hit a big ball too. Also saw her hit some winners on the run too. THe one constant I have seen in all of the Genie matches I have watched is that this girl is a competitor. She doesn't go on any walkabouts as they like to say down under and doesn't go through any lapses in concentration. She is business-like and never gives up and her on-court demeanour is not unlike that of her idol - Maria Sharapova.

I saw her play @ Rogers Cup as well this past summer against Kleybanova.

For my money right now the cream of the crop when it comes to the young rising stars on the WTA tour are Sloane Stephens and Genie Bouchard. Other players with potential include Madison Keys, Monica Puig, Laura Robson, and to a lesser degree Jamie Hampton, Christina McHale. Taylor Townsend is a good junior player but she needs to improve in the fitness department.

We have a new number 1 in the Rankings ... Novak beats Nadal in Finals this weekend 6-3 6-3 but losses his number one ranking ... I have an idea . IF you defend a crown you should get an extra 100 atp points .

Another early exit for Roger Federer ... Is he going to stick around for the 2014 season ? Sampras had to hang them up because of back issues . Roger may have to hang them up cause he can't compete at a high level anymore .

Wont surprise me at all if Genie's ranking is comparable (or even higher) than Milos' ranking by end of 2014. Genie has progressed a lot even during this season and its just a matter of having a full calendar year under her belt. Sloane is about a year older and started to bloom earlier which is part of the reason Sloane's ranking is higher. Genie and Sloane are similar players in a lot of ways. I don't pay too much attention to rankings but Sloane is ranked near the top 10 now. Don't know her exact ranking but I know she is in the top 15 for sure. But I don't see any reason why Genie cant do some of the same things that Sloane has done. In fact I think Sloane v. Genie could be one of the better rivalries on the WTA in the coming years.

Genie is in this week's final playing Sam Stosur. Should be a good test.

Will it be televised in the middle of the night from Tokyo? My sleep habits are bad enough that I could probably catch some of it.

Match is apparently at 11pm EST. I would suggest checking Sportsnet One. My guess is they will pick up the coverage of the match. Even if they didn't originally have it planned on the schedule Sportsnet usually will change their plans if a Canadian is playing a big match. Granted, this is a smaller tournament and the fact that Genie is seeded 5th in this tournament tells us all we need to know about the strength of the field but still its a big match for her as she could win her first tour title. And at least she will have to beat a pretty solid player in Stosur in order to win it. Stosur likes to run around her BH a lot so Genie will have to find a way to get to the Stosur BH. Stosur also has a VERY good 1st and 2nd serve. Genie will have to watch out for that kick 2nd serve from the Australian.

Don't think the Genie/Stosur match is on TV. I don't see it on any of the Sportsnet channels and Sportsnet is the only channel that carries coverage from NON-MAJORS in Canada (except for the weekend Rogers Cup matches which air on CBC).

As number 2 Nadal had a 25 plus game winning streak . As Number 1 he lost in a final and now lost in a SF.

My son found a place to stream it.

She had an easy volley to go up 6-5 in the second and hit it wide. Instead Stosur broke and then won 6-2 in the third.

On the subject of women's tennis .. Former Canadian Rene Simpson lost her battle with cancer this week.

At the approx same age as Roger . Serena Williams capped a 78-4 season . Wow .
Mary Carillo made a similar point at the USO this year however as Johnny Mac pointed out the best-of-5 format at the majors for the men is a huge factor. Recovery between matches at the majors therefore is much more difficult for the men than the women at majors especially after long matches. And your recovery is tested between matches as you get older. Also, the womens game just isn't as deep as the mens game these days. That is not a knock on the womens game because I love the womens game as well but its just a fact. Also, we are living in a Golden Age of mens tennis . Full marks to Serena for the outstanding record this season but its hard to make a direct comparison between Serena and Federer in terms of their season records because it is not an apples-to-apples comparison due to the aforementioned reasons.
