After the bill for the PanAm games come in, no politico will even dare to mention another circus.

One can hardly imagine the traffic whining that would ensue

The last fucking thing I would ever want in Toronto was a summer Olympic Games. Peterson probably figures he could wrangle himself some nice 500 grand a year cushy job doing nothing on the committee steering the fucking thing.

The summer Olympics are an insane waste of money. With every passing Olympics, it's grown bigger and stupider all in the name of outdoing the Olympics just prior. Billions upon billions wasted all in the name of to see who can run the fastest? Who fucking cares.

In 96, I was all for Toronto getting the Olympics. At the time, I was sold. I thought it would be GREAT. Now, 20 years on, I see what a colossal waste of money it is. The "Bread not circuses" crowd has my vote on this one.

100% agree.

Was all for it in 96 and luke warm for 08. Now I want nothing to do with it. I enjoy watching but let someone else deal with the hosting headache.

I think the curtain has been pulled back on the likes of the IOC and FIFA in recent years. For the revenue these organizations pull in (non-profit my ass) they should be fronting a massive portion of the cost for a city to host.

If and only if, we already have ALL the infrastructure in place to meet our OWN needs, including a NFL-size stadium, then maybe we might be able to host an Olympics without extra cost, but the facilities have to already be in place, otherwise, just building stuff for the event won't work.

Remember that the Olympics will guarantee sold tickets (unlike the Pan Am games).

(Where in the hell did you find that judge judy nudity display? After a few beers or joints, I might do her too).

That's true too. Forgot about the back room deals and pocket-lining that's done.

My guess is that the Liberal supporters and friends may have come up a little short on the expectations off the Pan Am games and need the Olympics in order to truly sink the good the ship Ontario in debt.

seems like a drain on our resources, and our infrastructure can't support it...look at all the traffic woes with just Pan AM games

Aren't we STILL paying for "The Big Owe" in Montreal that sits empty ? Like the Rogers Cavern it was too big for CFL football.

Everyone should start bombarding their City councillor with messages opposing the games. It should start now. Maybe even form an anti-Olympic group and start a petition. Otherwise it will just roll in while people don't pay attention.
