You think its fine for politicians to make secret deals to friends and family?
The AG called it corruption and you don't see a problem with that?

So your issue is with the process and not about freeing up land to build housing?
I mean someone was going to sell property for this purpose right?

The process and the choice of land were totally corrupt.
The RCMP are investigating, DoFo should resign and the land rezoned as Greenbelt.

Your replies are just opinions.
Opinions with no facts or anything to back them up.
Everyone's replies are just opinions. That's the beauty about debating topics with people.
Posting opinions from a biased media sources does not make them fact. It's just 2nd hand opinion. Which is fine but everyone can do that all day long and find opinion pieces that align with their own beliefs. That's the cognitive bias part I was referring to.

As of Aug 25th the RCMP were considering investigating because they were asked to. But in all honesty I'm not sure if they have decided to proceed with the investigation.
I believe it will lead nowhere regardless.

We need houses built and most people don't care about political squabbles if it means that one day they can afford to buy a home.

No, some people have very well informed and reasoned opinions and some just opinions they heard on tv or SM.
Its worth figuring out where you sit in that spectrum to understand how best to reply to you.

Anbarandy, for instance, to the time to quote reliable sources with direct access to the info discussed. They used that info to generate a well thought and and supported opinion.
You haven't.

Some of the Greenbelt land is too close to an airport to build but most of it will take up to 25 years to build the services required before housing can be built.
In the meantime, DoFo's wedding guests can make $8 billion in profit from selling that rezoned land and not building a single house, even 25 years later.

Do you really not know any of this?

What comment are you responding to? I was responding to the pending RCMP investigation you mentioned.

DoFo doesn't control the lending rates.
However the plan to get housing projects done in 2 years or the land reverts to green belt sounds like a good incentive.

DoFo is corrupt and his donors will try to sell of that land in 2 years or less, they could care less about building houses.
DoFo needs to abide by the mandate letter he wrote and resign, no wonder he spend millions of our money trying to keep it secret.

He also doesn't control allegedly building "1.5million brand, spanking new homes!" and land use policy and planning across Develeper-tario. His developer buddies in crime do now.

The Rouge River valley is very important. Every stream from the Oak Ridges Morraine (which is all the way across the top of the city….out east to the Ganaraska river)…is. Do we like fresh, clean, cold water to drink??????where do we think our drinking water comes from. Mars? Shit rolls down hill……See the Don River. Would anyone drink from that?

Carolinian. Let’s just call that trees and brush.
or riparian zones. That everything in the food chain needs needs and relies on. Including the streams. Help filters run off, keep the soil intact so sediment and crap. Provides shade so water doesn’t get too warm ( there are cold water and warm water streams). When water gets too warm shit starts dying….
And provides a place to live for Bambi, foxes, hawks, voles, and much more…never mind the salt we have to have for our driveway and 407…fertilizers for your lawns and corn…

but I suppose progress and parking lots and 407s are ok…..

The airport.
It took the Feds (Harper) almost 50 years find some backbone and pull the trigger on it. If spineless politicians had started building the infrastructure years ago………………

Same can be said of immigration.
if infrastructure had been built ($$$$$) elsewhere. There would be jobs elsewhere, and people (immigrants and others) wouldn’t be flooding the GTA…driving house/rent cost through the roof. Who knows, maybe the need for an airport. That provides jobs, allows people and stuff to fly all over the world, in and out…(look at at the west side, Etobicoke and Mississauga… not just houses are they?) maybe not needed….

At the rate the GTA is growing. The fastest in North America…you think there’s going to be swampland available for housing in 10-15 years? Really?????

And given, how far behind supply already is.
you think there’s enough construction workers and materials to build enough, just to meet current demand and existing deficiencies?
Really?

No matter what land is sold today, tomorrow, next year or in 5 years when……there’s another 2 or 5 million people……. Someone is getting stupidly rich.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Thought about diversifying and others, other regions many years ago…

Can you think beyond just this year or next?
What reason. I’ll “accept” one or two. Do you have, to think things will improve anytime soon. What do you think the city is going to be like in 10 years?? Especially if, 300,000 per year, are arriving?

The GTA is the fastest growing “mega city” in NA. There are reasons for that, or do you think it’s all just because.

As far as green space or the Greenbelt goes. Parts of it are very important. Others maybe less so…

and maybe, just maybe. If there were reasons for people to look elsewhere ( you know that infrastructure you said takes years)…there might be less demand? And maybe, if people had thought about it. Years ago….

Yes, I am thinking long term.

Long term you don't get rid of some of the best arable land in Ontario.
Long term you encourage higher density development closer to the core, where you can make use of transit and services, as Ontario's own report stated.

but one. Projecting 300,000 per year.

Ontario's surging population growth is being driven by an increase in non-permanent residents that might not last, putting the province's economic growth on potentially shaky ground, according to a new report from Desjardins Economics
https://financialpost.com/news/economy/ontario-population-growth-economic-catch#:~:text=Article%20content-,Ontario's%20surging%20population%20growth%20is%20being%20driven%20by%20an%20increase,new%20report%20from%20Desjardins%20Economics.

Let’s split the difference. In 5 years
1.5 million more people. Let’s alone the buildings they will be working in, let alone infrastructure.

Today
Mississauga. 800,000
Etobicoke. 300,000
Oakville. 200,000
Still not there.

where will you find the space. And are you really thinking about it?

I'm not aware of any crimes being committed. Are you alleging that developers are criminals because they build homes and make money?

That's about a 5% increase in population a year.
