Solar and the wind will be world's major energy sources by the early
to mid 22nd century whether people like it or not.
Maybe not 40 but I have little doubt those who are under
20 and are going to live to a ripe old age will get to experience
the early days of the post-oil era. They will likely have to
scramble to squeeze every drop of oil out of long dead
oil fields for the luxury of driving an antique ICE automobile.
Looking forward to the end of the next century I think the
generation of the great grandchildren of the infants born
today will live a better life. They will likely only have to
compete for Earth's resources with a population smaller
than half a billion.
