Yes the air canada flight into havana is too much so you are doing the right thing flying into veradero. Viazul buses run out of Veradero to havana for 10 dollars. I took one a while ago. I didn't realize sunwing does bus reservations as well. the more research I do the more I think I should...

Do you have to have proof of a Casa already booked for Havana when you fly into Veradero? Also I wonder if the viazul bus stops near Jibacoa on it's way to Havana? Hopefully I'll gain more experience in Havana with this trip, next time I will fly right into Havana probably.

Last time I visited havana I wasn't impressed. Looked very run down. I was happy I was only staying there a few days and was happy to get back to my all inclusive to relax. Some places in Havana look like a bombed out war zone.
