Not any kind of an expert, but my understanding is that the chances are very low for this activity (not zero of course). If you search you will find a lot of very "lively" discussions ;)

I have heard and seen this a lot over the years, fully understandable but my suggestion is to not delay the free weights until you "feel 100% ready" because machines and free weights are two different things. Even very small steps count, and they can be done very gradually and safely.
