The appeal of HBC was that it was a Canadian icon that had Canadian heritage. As a consumer, I found it disappointing that over time less of their merchandise was made in Canada. I was prepared to pay a premium for quality Canadian made goods but not for cheap foreign crap! If I want made in China crap, I'll go shop at the Dollarama 😏
If you ever want some local suggestions let me know. I have been happy buying Canada made products. Even my almond milk I choose earths own instead of silk

There are no Bay stores. They are all closing. The bankruptcy judge last month said no to them keeping those six open. So, Canadian Tire is swooping in to buy the intellectual property, things like the Bay logo, the iconic stripes/blanket:

And other things. The reason? They believe they can make money selling these nostalgic items in Canadian Tire/SportCheck/Marks Work Warehouse stores across the country. And, they might be right. I mean, I know I'm sad to see the Bay die, considering its 350+ year history in this country....At least some of its iconic things will live on.

No.... I mean, it is an investment and it could go either way. I know $30 million is a lot of cabbage to put towards something like this, but they are also getting a bunch of other brands besides the logo, like Gluckstein home decor and what not. I think they could start selling that stuff and could profit do quite well. I mean, we all know Canadian Tire sells basically everything, and now they can have higher-end stuff in their stores for things like sheets and stuff. They already sell expensive counter top appliances, so it isn't that crazy...
