I'm no big supporter of the Vatican in any way.

But the just departed Pope seemed like a real stand up guy.
A man of the people.
And not afraid to say the church screwed up in the past.

We can only hope his sucessor is as progressive.

If I could only say may the best candiate gets elected.
But that would suggest a woman would be in the running.

That is the thing that is the biggest flaw in the RC corner.

In Canada you can even see some women becoming officials in different Muslim sects.

But female RC priests and bishops so far seems to be a non starter.

Those problems exist in every religion sir.
As far as I know almost every form of Christianity except for Catholicism allows priest, pastors, etc. to marry.

Same for Islam and Judaism.

I assume almost every other religion as well.

The prohibition regarding heterosexual relationships almost guarantees the probability of the Catholic priesthood attracting men who are ok with that, including, but not exclusively, asexual men, homosexuals, and, most unfortunately in the Catholic Church, sexual predators of children. The last being the pervasive problems to which I was referring...

Appreciate it. You’re not completely wrong.

It’s beyond horrible what goes on behind closed doors in these situations all over the world. And the cover-up.

Again, it happens in every religion, and, just because it’s not on the mainstream media all the time does not mean it does not occur.

Why not just respect the memory of someone who tried to do good in this world.
I guess these days it’s a lot to ask.

Some insight as to how things ACTUALLY work in our fallen and corrupt world.

As a Jew I have no real insight into Catholic matters, but I do think a whole lot of problems in the Catholic church could have been avoided if priests had been allowed to marry.
All major religions were formed thousands of years ago. I believe at one time priest were allowed to marry in the Catholic church. In the Islamic religion there is no prohibition against BJ or DATY, but it is discouraged. The reason for may be that thousands of years ago when the religion was formed there was little water to drink, let alone wash. So no one would go down on a person that has not washed for weeks, months.

In the early centuries of Christianity, many priests, bishops, and even some popes were married.
Over time, celibacy became more common and was officially mandated in the Second Lateran Council (1139).

In Sunni Islam, oral sex between a husband and wife is considered "Makruh Tahrimi" or highly undesirable by some Islamic jurists when the act is defined as mouth and tongue coming in contact with the genitals.

Can't find the clip, but when a bunch of abuse victims from the US went to seek audience with him a few years ago, he gave them the brush off. He said "I accuse! I accuse! I accuse!. Who accuses? The Devil!"
Some stand up guy.

The top levels of the Catholic Church all possess large amounts of personal wealth during their lifetimes. Prohibiting them from marriage ensures that said wealth will not be inherited by a surviving female spouse. It's not that different from how Royalty, rich Arabs and the Rothschilds typically marry their cousins. Hillbillies do that, too, but for different reasons.

I had not considered that angle. Adds an extra dimension to "follow the money"!

Too bad for the "unlikely to be wealthy" Catholic parish priest...

Wow! I didn’t know there was so much disdain and animosity for a man that has passed and tried to do well and spread the word of love and tolerance.
I guess there is no internal corruption among the higher ranks within Judaism, or Islam, and other religions. But not many say anything for fear of being cancelled.
He was a good man. Why not just end this thread on that note.
RIP 🙏🏼❤

Pope's Francis and John Paul I were almost similar in their agenda. Both believed in preaching love. Both were Archbishops, Venice and Buenos Aires, yet both lived very humble lives. They rode public transit instead of limousines. Both believed in relieving the misery of the poor and to give comfort to the sick. Pope Francis continued to lead by example, Pope John Paul I wanted the Vatican do divest itself of it's worldly treasure. That is why Francis ruled for 12 years while John Paul I mysteriously died after 33 days.

He was Father Guido Sarducci's favorite Pope.

No respect for anyone

“Islamists promise guerrilla warfare in Rome during mourning for Pope’s death” Rome, April 23, 2025 – While Italy mourns the death of the Pope, with national mourning declared until April 26, the day of his funeral, Palestinian and communist groups threaten to transform April 25 into a day of urban guerrilla warfare.
“April 25th is the celebration of the Palestinian Resistance,” declared the communists of Osa and Cambiare Rotta, together with Carc and other red acronyms, promising clashes in Rome and Milan, as reported by Il Giornale. In Rome, the communists are ready for guerrilla warfare against the Jewish community at Porta San Paolo, while in Milan the Palestinians claim to open the April 25th procession. It is an outrage to national mourning and another step towards the Islamization of the country: Italy is under siege.
