I read the article. It describes how easy it is easy to get cars through Canadian ports.

Elsewhere, there are articles that cite international gangs exploiting Canada's immigration laws to create a pipeline to move cars overseas. I sense this issue might not be fully discussed since many might find it a sensitive topic.

While the US, Canada and the UK have all experienced a spike in car thefts since the Covid-19 pandemic, Canada’s rate of thefts (262.5 per 100,000 people) is higher than that of England and Wales (220 per 100,000 people), according to the latest available data from each country.

It is also fairly close to that of the US, which sits at around 300 vehicle thefts per 100,000 people, based on 2022 data.

In May, the Canadian government said it would invest millions to bolster the CBSA’s ability to search shipping containers. Police will also get additional money to combat auto theft in their communities.


The theft rate is lower than the US and about 20% above the UK and due to a set of technical shortcomings in a niche area of law enforcement, which the Liberals announced that they were working to fix.

Of course, it's all Justin's fault and Pee and the righties will fix it within a day of taking office, just like Trump fixed egg prices. Happy now?

That only happened in 2015 mostly due to a 50% decline in the global price of oil. Here was GDP growth for the 3 years prior
2012 - 1.8%
2013 - 2.3%
2014 - 2.9%

I'm confused by your statement above. The Liberals "were working to fix" the problem, but it is not their problem?

GDP Growth
Canda's GDP was 0.6% in 2015 vs the USA GDP of 2.9%.
Canda's GDP was 2.64% in 2006 vs the USA GDP of 2.78%

More on par when the Conservatives took power in 2006
In spite of a hug USA recession in subsequent years their GDP growth eventually left Canada's in a dust in 2015!!

It's called rhetoric my friend.

You started with what some might call an untenable position. The position that a liberal party in power can not prevent or reduce bad events. Since auto theft is not an act of nature and not exactly a global calamity, it would seem reasonable to look to Ottawa for solutions.

We just went through this in 2022-2024 here in the States. You know the Biden Administration can't control this, that and so on. It's not their fault.

Earp, you're like a wayward 5 year old who needs potty training help from a kind junior kindergarten teacher. So let me waste 5 minutes of my time.

Any party out of power can search for areas that need improvement. Just like Trump and the price of eggs.

There will always be an area or 2 that needs improvement. That doesn't mean that Justin is incompetent. Especially as the Liberal government was already moving to fix things up a year ago. There will always be aspects of public administration that need amelioration. It's normal.

But like Trump and the price of eggs, it doesn't stand to reason that Pee will fix things up. Pee's 1-size fix is to ban bail and institute minimum jail terms. No one actually involved in the crim justice system thinks that either of those measures will assist anything, let alone something as specific and niche as car theft exportation.

And Pee is hinting that he will ride roughshod over the judiciary and existing caselaw by using the "notwithstanding clause" to enact his little jerk-off vote-getting scams. Oh, and the CPC's not-so-secret plan to recriminalize abortion, of course.

I think everyone including yourself know this is a strange election. Trudeau shit the bed the last ten years and Carney drops in at the eleventh hour. The Trump rhetoric comes in a nick a time for Carney. We then get liberal TERB members here reciting the 51 state mantra. They're too dimwitted to not realize that A) it's hyperbole and/or B) if Canadians are influenced by it, they're letting Trump and the U.S. influence your election.

Except.....

Trudeau became a national punching bag towards the end of his last term and was everybody's scapegoat. He was a convenient target and the attacks developed a momentum so large that it was impossible for him to survive.

But little of that was Trudeau's fault. The public had just become bored of him.

Pee's problem is that he is a little whining shitfleck with a legislative record that is not only unspectacular, but also well to the right of the Canadian mainstream. If he was lucky, he would have won a majority running against JT and then mis governed the country for 5 years before being turfed. His pre MP job was being assistant bullshit purveyor to Ezra Levant. In the House, he was Harper's pet attack dog. None of that speaks to any talent other than glibness and being a prick. There's only so far that takes you.

Carney is a far better candidate. He's headed 2 central banks ffs. The enormity of that achievement dwarfs anything that Pee could ever dream of doing. Even without Trump and with Pee riding on the momentum of his Trudeau era polling, Pee would probably have ended up with a minority.

Throw in Pee's daddy, Trump turning on Canada and Pee's disappearance for several crucial weeks while Carney went mano a mano with Trump fighting for Canada. Pee could have stood shoulder to shoulder with Carney and taken a share of the glory. He didn't do that. Why?.....

Because he would have lost 50% of the hardcore, far right Tory base - who all crave to be Americans and suck American dick. All those KKKonvoy thugs that Pee fellated when they took over Ottawa would have turned on Pee and his CPC base would have voted PPC. So Pee just hid, like the little coward prick that he is.

That's why he's going to lose the election. Pee's support was always softer than fresh turds outside the far right Alberta / Saskatchewan kkkonvoy people. He's an unlikeable man who doesn't improve on better acquaintance. If he had any talent and integrity, he would have stood off Carney's challenge and won the election. But he's not that guy.

The fact is the US always influences the Canadian election.
It's a consequence of being the neighbour and largest trading partner.

I don't think it was intentional. It was just one of those off the cuff remarks that he keeps repeating because it gets a rise out of people. That's his blustery way.

Just looking at TERB, there's a couple thread titles discussing the 51st state controversy (if you can really call it that). It also gets mentioned repeatedly in other threads.

I can't remember a Canadian election where the U.S. is mentioned as much as this election.

I see this as an opportunity for the Liberals to claim Canada's independence from the U.S. Inadvertently, this effect is likely pulling Canada further to a European model where the State has greater involvement in the economy and society.

You can forget the projections by some about getting closer to China. China has dissimilar societal and political values. On an economic level, China's industrial export machine would banish Canada to primarily a driller, miner and farmer. I don't see this actually happening because I think Canadian politicians will see the importance of integration with the North American economy.
