The no-move contract doesn't stop Berube from putting him in the press box.
His hefty salary does. Bench him and trading him makes it harder to do should he ever decide to waive it. I never understood why only Maple Leafs want to stay when things get rough but GTFO ASAP come July 1st.

Or at least relegating him to 2nd or 3rd D pairing.
He was worse than horrendous last night and he logged just shy of 28 minutes.
Him getting twisted around and being caught totally out of position are not isolated incidences.

So Chicago just scored against Vegas in overtime.
The winner was scored by
number 59 Bertuzzi former Leaf his 3rd of the game. Assisted by
number 95 Mikheyev former Leaf. On defense as the 3rd was
number 55 Levshunov future Leaf (traded for Rielly)

Florida just beat Colorado in regulation. Thought the game was tomorrow but it wasn't.

Canada
Three years in a row, Canada has been beaten by Czechia, the Canadian kids were more disciplined than last year until tonight. Gavin McKenna took a stupid penalty. Canada will play for bronze. If they have any pride, they need to qin the bronze. Or else it's a huge question mark on Canadian hockey at the development level.

Tanev to have surgery. Out for the rest of the regular season. That's a disaster. It's going to take a miracle.

So, last game vs NYI Rielly lead the team in ice time 27:31. OEL played 26.40.
McCabe played 18:07 because he was injured mid game.
He wasn't out there for the OT or even late in the 3rd to preserve the lead.
It was Rielly with Benoit when NYI scored the tying goal to take it to OT.
If McCabe is injured long term or even short term that should be terrifying.
McCabe leads the league in blocked shots.

Even if Rielly agrees to waive his no trade, the Leafs would still have to give up an arm and a leg to bribe a team to take him. The bold move I’d like to see Treliving make is to buy him out. There would still be 1/3rd of his salary left to boost the roaster somewhere plus you’d get rid of the team’s biggest liability without losing assets. That would be the kind of DNA change that Treliving promised.

When Berube said he’s not worried about Rielly, he becomes a problem himself. Rielly has been on a rapid decline over the last 3 seasons. There were suggestions that he put in extra work in the summer to lose a few pounds. That hasn’t produced much improvement in his performance. If Berube can’t even see that, he needs to find another job.

My thoughts exactly.
I get protecting your players but if you have to make the comments Berube made after a game like that,
it suggests the player has a fragile mindset.

Serious question:
If Marner were to win the Cup this year and bring it back to his hometown to celebrate, as it is tradition, would anyone come out and attend outside of his immediate family parents, the wife, Zeus?

Every team in the Pacific Division has a negative goal differential.

I certainly wouldn't. I couldn't even stand Marner, when he was a member of the Leafs.

Most goals against award goes to Morgan Reilly. Nobody has been on the ice in the NHL this season for more goals against than Morgan Reilly.

The Leafs management team needs to grow a set of balls. We can trade you. Or we can burry your salary in the minors. 10 years of this guy is enough

Rielly has been terrible since the 2022-2023 season. In game 7 against the Bruins in 2023, he was the main culprit for the goal that eliminated the Leafs. On the positive side, keeping him and playing him 25+ minutes will give the Leafs a better chance in keeping their high first round pick.

The defensive breakdowns are an endless ongoing list. It’s a win/win situation. Send him to the Marlies and he might wake up and improve.

Or pick 7 teams and work out a trade and eat some salary. The Leafs will never tank this close to a playoff spot. They cannot continue with this horrible play.

2025 Marner leaves in free agency.
2026 Rielly traded at deadline or off season.
2028 Matthews contract ends and he leaves as a free agent ala Marner.
2029 Tavares contract ends and he retires.
That leaves Nylander for 2027 some way somehow something happens that sends him somewhere.
