we can not have our fiscal policy determined by US politics

note: Joe Biden (Democrat ) increased tariffs on Canada

There is no guarantee a new US Administration will reverse Trumps Tariff policies

they will act in a manner which is politically advantageous to them

Canada has been lurking form one crisis to the next and each time the answer is throw more borrowed government money at the problem.
this will end very badly for Canadians
So if you were prime minister what would be your solution then??

Not long-term, no.

But if we can make it until 2028 when Dems return to power, it might just work.

If the US is staying on its current path I can't see the Republicans winning in 2028.

I also think the midterms are gonna be a total landslide for the Democrats
Unless Trump finds some way to cancel them, or negate the results.

Don't think the Repugs are not planning this as we speak... ;)

Interesting chart on commodities the USA needs from us. It might be time to do a round of maintenance checks. The shut down would of course be temporary......

Based on Trump's first term behaviour, does his second term behaviour surprise you?
No.
The difference is not in behavior, it is in knowledge and team and context.
Trump learned from his first term, Trump did a lot of damage to institutions in his first term, and Trump had a different set of people around him in his second term.
He also announced most of his plans to do things differently because of what he did and did not accomplish in term one.
All of this was obvious.
People who kept saying that Trump's first term wasn't so bad so obviously the second won't be either were obviously wrong (whether dishonest or mistaken depends on the person).

Counter-tariffs announced

I'd prefer if we did something more unexpected.

So the deal was suppossidly done and then PM Carney pulled the plug at the last minutes because the Americans had added a last minute change(s)

So which of the above was the deal breaker that was too much for PM Carney?
&
Which of the above was going to be just fine for PM Carney and already in the deal he was about to sign ?
This is why many of us have asked for what the deal was when it looked positive and what was added last minute.

well, logic dictates that some of these had to be in the to deal PM Carney was ready to sign before the deal breaker was added

did Lutnick add all 13 after the supposed deal was done ?
or
was PM Carney ready to cave on some / most of these?
We will likely never know as most are political dynamite for the liberal party
or
is the list suspect/ leaked propaganda?

We don't know yet. But even you have to agree that list is beyond the scope of reality. No nation in any trade talks has ever tried this. B

My suspicion is it all was presented late for this reason. Trump has talked about every one of those points. And its his modus to pull this. He does it all the time. The swiftness of the walk out tells me Carney say it coming, although even he must have looked at this and thought WTF.

Trump has a thing for creating false deadlines to try to make people blink. We didn't fall for it.

Mark Carney caved on the Gordie Howe bridge deal. So Trump thought Carney would cave on the trade deal as well.

Parliament should be recalled for a full debate. What did Carney agree to and what was added last minute by the US to scuttle the talks?
