I've been searching and thought I'd try to get some more info here.

I'd like to hear peoples experiences of their time in the Dom Rep.

any info on fishing , casinos, and pooning( not necessarily in that order) will be greatly appreciated.

planning on going within the next few weeks. probably stay for a week , and looking at a budget of around 2G's US. from what I've read, that sounds like its a ballpark figure to have a good time. of course cheaper would be better , but I'm not willing to skimp to save a few bucks if its going to jeopardize my life.

and from my research, I'm assuming its best to only drink bottled water.

If you are looking for general information, I would highly recommend the Lonely Planet Guide. It will give you a very good idea of your options.
If you are looking for pooning information, you should check out World Sex Guide http://www.worldsexguide.com/forum/ It has a special section on DR and will give you specific info on what is available and where.

In one week, you won't have much of a chance to move around and see the country. I was on the north coast (Puerto Plata). There are several alternatives for pooning...Blackbeards, Field of Dreams, Sosua. They all offer a different experience and may or may not be what you are looking for. There is also scuba, windsurfing, fishing and whale watching available, among other things. DR is a very safe country when you practice just a little bit of common sense. So you don't need to worry about jeopardizing your life, whether you choose to skimp and save a few bucks or not.

I always enjoyed the Dominican Republic, but havn't been there in years.

I recommend you keep your pooning to those in the resort, or at least be very careful. I believe Haiti is in tough with the battle against HIV and is just over the hill.

White on top of head.

If you see a man or woman white the any part of their hair dyed white, it means they are for hire. ( sex ) On other thing  the DR is one of the places on earth that has the highest rat os AIDS. So, stick with the fishing. If you suck on anything make sure it is a cigar, or a bottle of rum.

hey malibook , how much did you pay for your ticket?

I checked one of the links you posted , the prices range from $634(AC) to $1457(amer). why such a big difference?

looks like both are coach as well.

which hotel's are close to a casino? are there a lot of casinos ?

what's the normal practice when bringing a girl into the hotels? or should you avoid it ?

Question: Does drinking the tapwater just make you very sick or can it kill you???
It can make you sick, and if you do not replace the lost fluids quickly enough.... it can kill you, electrolytic imbalance. But is there anything toxic in the water, no, just bacteria that your body did not grow up with so you have no natural immunity.
Unless you drink water downstream from the factory built there because there are no environmental regulations in place. ;)

I paid $860 for an all-inclusive package this last trip.

Check these links for flights and packages.

Playa Dorada complex has 15 resorts 3 of which have casinos.
There are a few others nearby.

Take the chicas to a cabana.
You can get a beautiful room with jacuzzi for around $15 for 4 hours.

We were thinking of going again during March break but we found out that there had been 3 cases of Malaria confirmed in the last few weeks (out of 45,000 visitors so the chances are small). Dec/Jan is a wet time for them (it rained every night we were there, but only once during the day) and they have had recent history of having Malaria cases.
These cases were on the east coast, not north.
Even if I was going to Punta Cana I wouldn't worry about such rare incidences but those who are concerned should take some Chloroquine.
I think I might get vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B though.
