Not a Kubrick film in the bunch, aren't these considered British?

How about some classic Alec Guiness from Ealing Studios, like The Lavender Hill Mob?

I watched that on VHS , yeah ... it was that long ago. Brilliant flick, maybe not my top 10 brit flick but still fucking brilliant, and dark, yes, dark. I believe the director/writer had a very different ending in mind but somehow went with what they had for theatrical release then.

More a cult flick for Brit audience IMO. Richard E Grant was simply ... convincing.

Can't think of a top ten, but here are my top three:

"The Ladykillers" (the 1955 original with Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers)
"The Horse's Mouth" (1958, also with Alec Guiness)
"Billy Liar" (1963, with a young Julie Christie - mmmmm)
