Phillies thoughts

I'm stoked to see if my Phils can 2peat!! Not an easy feat, esp since their bullpen is in shambles. Still, if their bats are hot they can pummel anyone into submission.

Lee is an unknown in the playoffs and Hamels isn't as he was last year. Howard has 58 RBI in his last 46 games but the rest have cooled off. Ibanez seems to be back in the swing after his injury. If the rest of the guys hit their averages it will be hard to out score the Phils.

As always it comes down to pitching and defense. No one can match the Phil's leather but the pitching could be trouble.

Will Pedro be in the Phillies Playoff rotation?
TBD ....... I think his experience may make charlie go with him ..... Lee, Hamels, Blanton are locks ... Pedro or Happ will be # 4 most likely. I'd like to see the kid get it, he's earned it. Hope he gets ROY too.

Funny, i saw Happ pitch 2 years ago when the Phil's AAA club spent 1 year in Ottawa and he wasn't impressive. Saw him last year at Lehigh Valley and still not impressed. He gets to the bigs and is solid. My untrained eye had no clue ..... been playing and/or watching baseball for over 40 years and still can't pick a winner! ;)

What about when John Maine was with Ottawa - saw him pitch when the Orioles were the Lynx farm team... no reason to think he would be really successful early on with the Mets.

I hate the way the Yankees spend money and try to buy championships but that being said i dont see anyone taking them out this year.
I'm thinking this may be the Angel's year ...... if they can get past the Sox!

BTW, read tonight that Pedro will be the 4th SP for the Phils.........

I would love to see the Twins and Tigers both lose or both win today to force a playoff game tomorrow.

I still remember the Yankees / Red Sox from '78 when Bucky Dent hit the home run to win it for the Yanks.
I cannot remember if it was an afternoon game or not, pretty sure it was, because I had to skip school to see it.
I got home after stopping to pick up a couple slices of pizza, a big bag of chips and a bottle of Coke(no Zero back then, no Diet either). Those were the days, could eat all that crap and not gain an ounce.
And the pizza, still the best pizza I ever had. I still remember the name 'Old Italian Style Pizza'.

Oh the memories.

Actually the game is considered apart of the regular season, I just did not know what else to call it. The "Tie Breaker Game" ?
And because of the Vikings/Packers NFL Monday nighter, the ball game goes on Tuesday.

I don't think that it can be considered apart since had there been a 3 way tie, the loss in the 163rd game will play a role in who gets in.

team A : 95-67
team B : 95-67
team C : 95-67

team A and B plays a 163rd game to determine the division championship. Team A wins.

team A : 96-67
team B : 95-68
team C : 95-67

team A and C will make the playoffs based on winning percent. All stats count.

Phillies 5, Rockies 1

Lee returns to form with a complete game, no walk performance in his first ever playoff start. If Hamels can do the same the shaky bullpen won't be as much of a factor. Blanton most always pitches into the 7th or more. Good start for the defending champs.

Watching the Twins trying to wake up against the Yanks .... not going well so far, 6-2 NY in the 7th.

brrrrrrrrr !!!!!

Pedro goes for the Phils in a potential snowstorm in CO. Temps in the 20s F tomorrow and not much better Sunday...... then again the Phils have some experience playing in unplayable conditions. MLBTV says Pedro has a 4-1 record with 2.33 ERA in cold weather.

Wherever I shouldn't be
both yankees, both sluggers. both MR OCTOBERS
2 games does not erase his prior futility, though it's definitely a start. There is and will always be only one Mr. October. And at the time I disliked him nearly as much, though I did admire his production in the clutch. ARoid still has a ways to go to overcome the girly slap on Arroyo in '04.
