They would be the best were I the lucky buyer
who got to pocket the extra $150k when selling
the house next year.

I hope the fortunate couple does not simply flip the house in the near future and pocket that money.

I wonder if the seller could write a contract prorating the 150k over say 5 years.

You write a letter to include with the offer?
When did begging start?
Agreed and on top of that the house sold for well above asking so while it was kind to not take the highest offer. They did accept above asking.

However it was still a nice thing to do as they didn't have to.

If I'm reading this right the sellers were asking 789K and the people they sold to offered 989K (200K over asking) and rejected an offer 150K over that.

There are cheaper homes and cheaper areas.

Would you ever leave $150k on the table?

The market being what it is, demand overwhelming the current supply, has sellers and agents deliberately listing homes at asking prices well below their actual value to get extra bids.

I've heard that too. The sellers got what they wanted otherwise I doubt they would have done it.

Generally no. CTV conducted a mini survey on this. It depends on the circumstances like if your old home is in a posh neighbourhood, and you know your house will be a knock down to the next multi-millionaire buyer, NFW.

All I can say is that I'm so glad I bought in Oakville. My little war time house has almost doubled in price since I purchased it not quite 5 yrs ago. It's not in a posh neighbourhood, but one that's slowly being improved upon and therefore is going up more than market value, much like that of Port Credit some yrs ago. I'll freely give of my time to help others and have in the past through volunteering, but have worked hard for my money and can't afford to be so generous that way. Kudos to those that can and do!

Someone offered nearly a $1M on that shack? That is insane! What does the average home cost in that area? Here $1M CA will get you 6 bedrooms 5 car garage on a coupe of acres of property.

Generally anything South of the QEW isn't cheap and anything South of Lakeshore is at least a million. My mom's house in Newmarket, which is newer, much bigger than mine and has a much bigger yard is worth about the same. Go outside the GTA and prices go down.
