I'm a little surprised that there seems to be no interest here in AI this year. As a contributor to the threads from earlier years, I have been a little underwhelmed by the contestants this year. But let's see if there is any interest out there...

I'll start by posting the current Vegas odds for each contestant:

Blake Lewis 4-1
Chris Richardson 10-1
Chris Sligh 7-1
Gina Glocksen 25-1
Haley Scarnato 100-1
Jordin Sparks 7-1
Lakisha Jones 5-2
Melinda Doolittle 5-4
Phil Stacey 40-1
Sanjaya Malakar 30-1
Stephanie Edwards 10-1

The two African American divas--Lakisha and Melinda--have been established as early favorites, no surprise. It seems everyone likes Melinda's talent, especially since it seems to be wrapped in such a likeable and humble package. I think the sleeper could be Jordin, and she would be a bargain right now at 7:1.

No surprises from the first week. I thought the three guys in the bottom three were indeed the worst performers of the week, it would have not bothered me if any of them left.

Sanjaya 30-1? Should be like 300-1. How is this guy still there? I would rank Stephanie and Chris better than 10-1 odds.

Ever heard of "Vote For The Worst"? Their website is www.votefortheworst.com ... Sanjaya is their current pick. Each year they pick who they think is the worst candidate and encourage their members to vote for him/her.

Hey this is great .. I can voice my opinion ... Wow this is the worst bunch of 12 that American Idol has produced ...
Well I'm not sure if it's the worst. The girls are definately better than last years bunch overall. They guys aren't even close. They all suck basically. For me, the best of this years group are Jordin, Melinda and Stephanie.

The only one that intrigues is that Blake kid that does the beat mix stuff.
Oh no, his 5 minutes of fame should be up already, and he can take his little fag buddies Sanjaya, and Chris Robinson with him.

Melinda is turning out to be the best....I'm glad Haley got a reprieve, she's a real hottie.

Please turn off that whine coming from Chris Robinson.

She wore a short skirt last week too. I think she's hit upon a viable strategy--my singings not gonna cut it, so I might as well flaunt the cheesecake and get votes that way.

I enjoyed tonight's show, but that Sanjaya guy has got to go.

Agree, but all you have to see was that 10-12 year old girl in the audience cry to realize that he will be around for a while yet.

I don't remember a revealing dress (maybe Lakesha......yikes! ), but Haley looked awesome in the hot pants with the braless top. Yummy.

About two or three shows ago, Simon made the scathing comment that Haley was boring and that no one even knew her name.

She seems to have ratcheted up the sex appeal since then (a viable strategy given she is probably the sexiest female left in the competition) as a response to his comments.

Well, we know her name now, and as Simon himself even admitted, "They'll be talking about you tomorrow, although maybe not for your singing".

LancsLad has me thinking about the Beatles from another thread.

Was anyone else surprised that out of 11 contestants, no one performed a Beatles song on a theme night dedicated to the British Pop Invasion?
