Another "Honor Killing"?

That was the first thought I had as soon as they mentioned Thrncliiffistan, plus the reluctance to give any details for two days is a clear sign of political discomfort with addressing the nature of the murders.
However, if it is in fact related to recovering a body on the DVP, that would be pretty unusual way for an honour-killing assasination to play out. That sounds more like a gang fight with either one of the attackes or a survivor being chased down through the wooded areas and killed near the highway?

It is a very nice mix. Based on the little info available, it appears this family (R.I.P.) is Muslim. It is particularly sad when children (age 13 and 8) are also victims.
Police have sure kept quiet on this triple murder. There's been no mention of the relationship to the man who jumped to his death on the DVP nor have they said there's a potential killer on the loose. The female victim was Somalian and a Toronto public health nurse.
Bit more info. Man is the 50 year old husband and father. Apparently, the family was tight knit and there were no outward signs of any discord.
If you want to jump off a bridge, go ahead but don't kill your wife and two kids beforehand. What could they have possibly done to deserve that? Fucking asshole!
Fear of death tends to suppress outward signs of discord.
Like-minded neighbors may view as normal what be red flags to you or me.
Thorncliffe is NOT diverse anymore. Not religiously and culturally anyway. Don Valley West is a much larger area. Thorncliffe Park is just one neighborhood within it with a huge concentration of big apartment buildings, including 3 of the largest in the GTA. I know because I live here.
In the last 20 years it has gone from multi-cultural of working class Canadians, Greeks, Russians, Chinese and Filipinos to over 95% Sunni Muslim, and here is is a very, very, very conservative kind of islam too. Mostly Afghans and Pakis with a smattering of Somalis, Indian muslims, Kurds, Turks and Arabs. That's why they move to Thorncliffe, because it has a very conservative mosque and religious leaders that do not tolerate secularism or ideas like gay rights or women's equality. The number of girls and women here with their faces covered is in the hundreds, not a dozen or so like you might expect in this city. Spend a couple of hours in the local mall on Overlea and start counting. You'll wonder what ever happened to the women's movement in Canada. Many teenage daughter's are sent back home for forced marriages once they start showing streaks of Canadian independence. The local high school (Marc Garneau at Don Mills and Overlea) notes this disappearance of female students every September in the grades before graduation.
Conflict between husbands and wives, parents and kids is constant because of all this. There have been a few murders in the last 10 years, but they don't make the headlines because they are one offs. Many are now done as car accidents where a family friend "accidentally" runs down the wife or daughter in the parking lot. It's such a shame. They families would have been better off if the father's would either adapt or just choose not to come to Canada in the first place.
The Star article said that the woman went to a shelter a few months ago, but maybe returned because of inability to pay rent on her own. It might just be another case of an asshole abusive husband - those exist irrespective of religious or cultural background.

Also, if we want people to become part of our culture, our language should reflect that as well.whether they think it or not, starting by calling them Somali-Canadians, rather than Somalis, might be a small step in the right direction

"Honor killings" are almost always motivated by religious/cultural reasons. When white people kill their spouse and/or children it is almost always because the murderer is mentally ill. Same result but vastly different reasons.
so you re saying that white people murders of spouse and children are for understandable reasons? , while the ones committed by Muslims is wrong because they're muslims?
I would also say that killing your wife and kids - irrespective of reason - is a sign of mental illness. A"Muslim" saying it's because of honor is no more sane than a white guy doing it because the devil told him to, or because his wife talked to another guy on FaceBook.
Again - just because a Muslim kills someone doesnt make it an "honor" killing, or an act of terrorism. He might just be your plain, old, everyday murderer.

Actually I think that a lot of so called Atheists that belong to clubs and hold meetings,...should be called Anti-theists,...the tag religion would fit better then.
Otherwise,...Atheist, is an old out dated religious term that is not even used by Canadian governments anymore.
