As long as it's peaceful and no-one is harmed or harassed, more power to them.

This isn't a protest. It's members of the community trying to get zoning issues figured out. They had trouble getting things resolved, probably partially their own fault because they didn't understand the Byzantine ways of City Hall, so took a direct approach.

Good for them for doing it, and just as important good for City hall for holding their ground and not accommodating based on PC.

somehow missed where you disagreed with the right to protest, or felt it was a bad thing.
Two issues here.

1) The subject of the protest concerns a zoning bylaw enacted in 2013.
In the words of Mayor John Tory.
"We have zoning laws for a reason. We have fire safety rules for a reason. And we have to make sure we go along and comply with those,"
Councillor Thompson said these zoning laws apply to everybody and that the group was warned about the bylaw BEFORE they bought the property. Hope City Hall doesn't cave on this one like the schools caved on prayers in public schools.

2) It gives the impression that one particular group is always protesting/complaining/whining about one thing or another. (I remember the Tamil protest from years ago but none since.) Always quick to cry discrimination and play the race card. Just because we have the right to protest doesn't mean we should constantly protest about anything and everything.
