I took a semester of AutoCAD 2000 a few years ago, but have not used the program since. I would like to become well-versed in its use and feel that having the program on hand would be the best way. However, it is expensive and I would prefer to purchase AutoCAD Release 14 (should be much cheaper) if it will get me close enough to my goal. Seems like 2000 is just faster and has a handful of new options.

1) While the two are different, would Release 14 provide enough of a similar platform to give me the ability to use my 2000 handbook to retrain myself?

2) Will R14 work with Windows 98 (I have read that it will but want to make sure)?

3) Anything I should be aware of?

Finally, I have been asked to name a price for a R14. Any idea what I should pay? I see R13's go for 100-200$US on eBay but could not find recent sales of R14.

PS I realize that new versions (02, 04 and 05) have come out, but they do not seem much different than 2000; at least from what I have read.

Tanks much.
