Like Capital said, you won't have any problem hooking up. The last time I was down there (I was there with some friends), we hung around off resort with one of the locals that had a brother who was a cop. I guess his brother was pretty well known locally cause he told us we would be ok as long as we stuck with him.
We could hook up all we want and noone would screw with us.
He said it wasn't uncommon for the tourists to get taken home by some of the local talent and get rolled when they get there. He had seen some guys get seriously hurt and left in an alley, or on the street. At least that's what we think he was telling us. Our spanish was only so-so. Enjoy
