I picked up a nano to hold me off until the iPhone came out.
Now, with the new iPods I may just get one to hold me off 'til the iPhone comes to Canada!!!!

I wouldn't hold your breath about the iphone, supposedly rogers is the only carrier in Canada that can handle the iphone's technology and there are all kinds of political BS happening there.

The itouch looks cool but the price is a little steep....$449.00 for a 16 gb....

I must say when I watched Steve Jobs keynote on these new products he did a great selling job. It is indeed the iPhone without the phone. I still think I will hold off until the iphone arrives. I have a pearl which I really love but if the iphone can blow it away then I have to take a serious look at it. Also from the talk in the geek community Rogers would charge about $300 per month based on their current plans to equal the plan that AT&T is providing at $60-80 per month. Compared to the $120 per month I now pay for what amounts to unlimited phone, domestic long distance and data that is a hard difference to justify. Going to be interesting to see if there is a deal made - Apple is probably not going to work to hard on this one as the total number of units that could be sold in Canada is a drop in the bucket compared to world wide distribution without putting up with Rogers BS.

I met a guy in a plane last week who is selling unlocked iphones. He says that his works on fido with the fido sim card. He's selling them for $1500 unlocked. Sounds pretty steep to me. Is he full of shit? i dont know. I was tempted but the whole thing sounds fishy.

Some where in Cyber Space
There are groups of geeks on the internet that have unlocked the iphones and they are selling software services to 3rd parties companies that usually sell unlocked phone. Just give it a month or two, you'll be able to pick them up at Tiger Direct or some such store.

I have seen on the internet the documentation on unlocking the iphone via hardware changes. Not the way to go.

Not if it's unlocked. Fido is a GSM network fully owned and operated by Rogers. They just keep the brand separate for marketing purposes. From a technical and a business entity perspective, Rogers and Fido are one and the same.

My Rogers rep recently told me that "someone else, likely Telus" will be building out another GSM network in Canada within the next 5 years. Can anyone confirm this?
