Are you working in civil service in Toronto/GTA?

Hi,

I'm considering applying for a job in civil service. One thing I'm concerned about is if I can still do this hobby while working in civil service. Aren't you more likely to get caught when working for civil service? For example, couldn't your director in civil service find out that you called an escort agency?

Is there anyone here who works in civil service and still participates in the hobby at the same time?

Thanks.

In a very dark place
Some confusion regarding your question. How do you put " civil service" and "working" in the same sentence while managing to sound so serious??????

What the heck are you talking about? Do you mean working for the government? A government agency? What?

If you got busted by the cops for something, charged, and convicted, then you might have a significant problem. If you already have a record you might have a problem.

How the hell would your boss know you called an escort? If you're stupid enough to call from your work phone, then you really do get what you deserve.

But otherwise this is a really bizarre question to be asking.

There was an issue a while ago where city of Toronto employees were busted by the police for picking up streetwalkers, while on work time, in their city vehicle. But they didn't get fired, perhaps suspended. If you are on your own time, own car, own phone, own place, you are fine.

If you were a prominent person in the organization I can imagine you would come under scrutiny. If you plan on working in a job that requires a high security clearance you can count on coming under scrutiny. For a high enough clearance they start giving you lie detector tests in which they ask whether you have ever had sex for money, whether you do drugs, whether you gamble, etc.

So it depends on your job..

For a rank and file employee in some random anonymous department I can't imagine it being much of an issue.

Of course if you use a work provided cellphone for which HR gets the call log... well in that case you're probably no smarter than the average civil servant. Using a work provided cellphone to call escorts will get you fired in private industry too.

Outcalls are legal are they not? If you do it that way then I don't see how you could get in trouble.
How incredibly naive. There are all kinds of perfectly legal activity that can result in the loss of a security clearance of sensitive position. Just getting caught in a lie (if its big enough) will cast doubts on your reliability and trustworthiness.

How soon people forgot about Governor Spitzer :p

And don't bring up the techy if he was in Canada he would have been fine--I am sure Mr Spitzer believes he broke no legal laws, just moral ones.

If Mr Harper was known to seen a $1,000 an hour escort in his motel room, he would be out of his job too, legal or not.

That's exactly what I first thought. Then I thought what dumbass would use their work phone to book an appointment? Probably the same ones that would use their work computers to surf the escort sites too. I think he'll do well in the civil service. Seems to fit the dumbass profile they look for.
