A few observations after tonights game.

1)Sloppy game. No continuity or sustained drives.

2)I thought Michael Bishop looked better than Kerry Joseph.

3)Questionable call by the Bombers to give up the safety with 5 minutes left turning a 1 point lead into a 1 point deficit.

4)Vanderjagt. Will he last the season? He was less than ordinary on field goals but even worse punting.

Since the CFL is always on a budget, they cannot afford a lengthy pre-season. Fans will not pay top dollar to watch exhibition games (unlike the NFL where if you want season tickets you must buy the pre-season tickets at the same price), and no one will broadcast pre-season games since no one wants to watch. So, whereas pre-season makes money for NFL owners, pre-season loses money for CFL owners. So many years back, they shortened the pre-season to 2 games, and lengthened the regular season to 18 games.

This means that all teams are a little rusty the first few games. Penalties, missed assignments, confusion, etc. are commonplace. Now throw in new head coaches for 4 of the 8 teams (incidently these clubs all won), new QBs in Toronto and Saskatchewan (yet they both won), and you have sloppiness.

By week 3 or 4 teams tend to look sharper.

The Argos have a strong defense (especially their secondary) which will take them far this year.

I thought the officiating was horrible. There were so many questionable calls (the phantom pass interference call in the Argo endzone comes to mind). And wtf was up with the Winnipeg catch in the last few minutes that went to review. The ball clearly hit the ground but was ruled a catch, and to make matters even more comical, they didn't even spot the ball correctly.

Sitting on top of my Perch
when Middlebrooks gets everything down pat...(he was defensive back of the week last week)...you wont be able to throw against this Argo Secondary....with Middlebrooks and Parker as the bookends....Wheaton, Steinauer, and Winters will have plenty of balls thrown directly at them..

until our offense gets goin, the D will carry the team...

Im excited!!!

The mighty Black & Gold will be invading Argo turf this Thursday. Lumsden = 95 yards rushing, 70 yards receiving & 2 touchdowns. We used the Winnipeg game to lull you into a false sense of security! After all, Argos Suck!!!

Well done my man.

Lumsden 190 yards and 2 Majors, very close and nice call.

You Ti-cat fans can gloat for now, but most likely it will be short lived. Enjoy it will you can, because you guys rarely have anything to root for as a typical second rate CFL team and second rate city(admit it)

It will be interesting to look at things come the playoffs. Hamilton a second-rate city? Well, it is true Toronto has first rate guns. We will always be second fiddle to you on that one.
The one thing I will give you is that Hamilton has better fans than Toronto. This comes from my observations of watching games at Ivor Wynne. There's no comparision. As for first rate guns, unfortunately we top you there, but the North End of Hamilton is no angelic place to be either.

Yes, I have been to the dome in Toronto to watch games and there is just no comparison. My seats at Ivor Wynne are no more than 25 feet from the field. You can see the action up close-especially when the cheerleaders are doing their cartwheels in front of us! If you ever come to a game in Hamilton again, let me know-I'll buy you a cold one!

And the North End has really come around; now mostly good Portuguese families. But in the past, yes, Barton & Sherman was not somewhere you would want to be late at night.
Thanks Pinkquack, I may just yet take you up on that beer. And the dome does have horrible sidelines. Actually domes in general make for lousy football viewing. I long for the day when Toronto will have an outdoor 20-25,000 seat stadium which could reenergize people into coming back out to the games

There was talk of the Argos playing at BMO field, but it is too small at a seating capacity of 20,000. The owners of the Argos would like to have BMO field expand the seating to 30,000 to accommodate what the Argos typically draw in attendance.
