You mean rebate ?

I have no doubt when these companies offer a rebate they first jack up the rates then offer some rebate to make you think you are getting a great deal when infact you are getting jack

Yes rebate. I was still asleep when I turned on the radio this morning. I think it is actually some kind of government rebate. For example, you hand over your old A/C and you get the rebate ($5,000?).

rebates often states "upto 5000" so depends on what you're really putting on...I had a new furnace installed 2 years ago for $2500...mutual friend who is a licensed hvac....I did shopped around for new furnace+ installation and most companies offered $4500 with $500 to $800 rebate....better to ask around than hearing an ad on the radio...

Read the fine print and compare.

The residential HVAC contractor business is full of overpriced con men and incompetent workers.

I did a quick internet search and didn't see any mention of a $5,000 rebate.

I'm due for a new home a/c. Compressor is now obsolete r22 refrigerant from 2004 and evaporator is likely mid 80's.
Now low on gas, so not much cooling performance.

The feds have a design excel worksheet with a ream of macros that help you figure the performance of the a/c, or in my case a new heat pump.

I have done the insulated walls, windows, roof and basement coldest winter heat loss and hottest summer heat gain for my house, along with air change ventilation factors .

Now to do the performance characteristics. I will likely keep the high efficiency natural gas furnace for coldest heating days or shoulder heating when weekday electrical prices are high, and let the heat pump do the shoulder season overnight and weekend home heating.

Now to figure if go with a two speed, with all but hottest summer on low speed, and winter on high speed on the coldest of the shoulder seasons.
Or if capital costs of two speed are too much, go with a bit bigger fixed single speed heat pump and run the furnace a bit more often in the winter.

I will likely put out bids for the specified size heat pump with option for one or two speed, with units specified from two or three OEM vendors, as not all a.c guys are dealers for all the OEM's.
Then disclose info on the existing furnace and they are to furnish smart thermostat and any air handler interface board to work with the existing furnace fan.

And when I say smart thermostat I really mean it. You program its clock, date calendar, cost of electricity schedule, cost of natural gas, and efficiency factors for electric and gas and allowable temp deltas from aim point.

Taking this approach I hope to eliminate a lot of song and dance a/c outfits, that specialize in bait and switch.

I have not had the opportunity to work with Atlas HVAC personally, but the monetary reward definitely caught my eye. However, it's always a good idea to research and read reviews from other customers before making a decision. I hope someone in our community has first-hand experience with this company and can share their thoughts. I also think you should look at various other offerings on employment platforms, as some companies can provide you with advanced training or a master's license. Both the Journeyman and Master licenses must be renewed every three years. So take your time and think about the pros and cons, and good luck.

5k will likely be for a heat pump.

A regular central air AC unit may have rebates, but only if you go with the more expensive higher efficiency units. Which is fine.

Gas furnace? I doubt there's any rebate at all. High efficiency or not. Which is fine as well. It will be a cold day in Toronto before I would ever want to remove my gas furnace in favour of solely a heat pump. .
