Over the weekend, there was a problem with AVG and I am wondering if anyone else encountered it? While trying to update, there was an error message stating there was a missing .bin file.

AVG apparently was aware of the problem and the next day it seemed to clear itself and my update ran successfully. However, I am now getting all kinds of spam, advertising crap appearing on my screen right out of no where. I don't click any links or roll over any ads, nothing. When I did an AVG virus scan this morning, after doing one on Sunday with no threats showing up, today I had 11 threats and 80-90 warnings. I noticed many of the files/websites were the same as the popups I am getting everytime I surf today.

I am just wodering if anyone else is having the same problems and if not, what should I do? My pop-up blocker is turned on and seems to be working fine, yet all these site just come up out of no where.

Same version.

I just did another scan and it picked up 4 more threats, one was a virus. AVG healed and removed all 4, so I am assuming all should be okay?

I have noticed within the last little while, all those pop-up, spam, advertisement pages, etc haven't been coming up when I surf. Maybe all is okay now.

Looks like I spoke too soon. I am doing another AVG scan and it picked up 2 of the same threats as last time.

Two have been identified, both as Trojan Horse Adload_r.AQ

These were among the 4 that AVG supposedly healed and removed the last time I did my scan, less than one hour ago, yet they keep coming back. So do I in fact, have a virus that cannot be removed, even though AVG tells me it has been?

Had the same problem; skimming some boards where many people had the same problem it seems there *was* a ".bin" file missing, but it was missing on AVG's server but it seems to have been resolved.

Hey just pulling your pecker, pecker. haha, I'm about to start using Linux desktop on a new Dell 530 I just getting. They say Abuntu works great on the 530 but I kinda like Fedora. Will see which one installs properly without recompiling drivers and stuffs.

Cheers mate

I started out in Fedora then went to Ubuntu when Dell did.
Ubuntu installed with no problems on my laptop other than wireless that I had to play with to get it working. Wired worked great.

Now the great debate in linux is 32 vs 64 bit. Like Windows 32 bit, linux 32 bit only uses 3.2GB of RAM. If you want to use more RAM you have to get the 64 bit linux version which they say is quirky at times like 64 bit Vista.

OK here is my first issue with ubuntu (or any Linux). I play online poker and I tried to get a Linux client for the software and it's not available. I dug around and found WINE. Installed that and it allowed me to run the windows client for my poker site until it kept crapping out. So, hard to switch off windows for everything. Any suggestions?

Linux is weak on gaming which doesn't bother me since I'm not into games. WINE does allow you to run many Windows apps but not all. I never got into WINE since I wanted to break away from windows completely since there are linux apps that will do everything windows does. You just have to learn to use them. This is the reason I went with a dual boot setup, so you can use both OSs anytime you want.

You may want to join the Ubuntu Forums. They are huge and I've found them friendly and as helpful as this tech forum, along with having sub-forums devoted to WINE and Gaming.

Thinking of running VMWARE - 1 partition Windoz and an other Ubuntu. Any experiences with that? That way I am hot keying between OS's to do the stuff I can't do with the other.

Recall reading a little about it but there is so much linux stuff out there.
Think I read something on it in the Ubuntu forums.
