Government telling small business owners to bend over and take it. again.
They are telling them to follow the guidelines.
Unfortunately some selfish idiots can not understand that following simple guidelines is not only beneficial for them continuing to have normalcy to their lives but also for businesses to stay open. Government has no other options but to shut things down, when a small but significant amount of people do not follow these set guidelines.

If they give them a lifeline - a real lifeline, it won't be as dire. Alas, I don't see that happening. It's going to be a long cold winter of death and business destruction. But a least we will give grandma and grandpa a few more months of abuse and neglect at the retirement home. Remember, that's what we are sacrificing for.

Let's hope government does a better job policing the retirement homes this time. First lockdown allowed horrible treatment of seniors.

When all this started in March the experts said we’d be in for another surge in fall and winter and I guess they were right.

Well if they don't follow the rules and make smart decisions, a full shutdown is next.
That's exactly what will happen, the same COVIDIOTS that caused Toronto and Peel region to be pushed back into phase 2 will cause York and Durham to also be pushed back into phase 2 or will cause full shutdowns. Although these COVIDIOTS will attempt to blame everyone else but themselves.
They will try to lay blame on the politicians for making the extremely hard decisions, the health professionals for making recommendations on preventive measures needed based on scientific datat but they won't look in the mirror to understand they are the cause of these rollbacks and are the one to blame.

I'm willing to bet a whole dollar that the public transit is the real culprit. Last time I looked, it was the low income high density areas affected the worst. Elevators, common spaces and the public transit.

The mask wearing zealots think the mask it the answer to everything. They think writing COVIDIOTS in caps makes their point stronger. If only it were that simple.

Public Transit is probably the filthiest public space out there. (Only thing worse is a portable toilet at Burning Man.) The metal handrails and the cloth seats are petri-dishes of biblical proportion. In the rural areas, they don't have these communal surface areas that everyone simultaneously touches [in the urban areas].

JCPRO is right. They need to shut down public transit in the hotspots. That will definitely bring the numbers down. But shutting down public transit takes huge balls.

If they lock back down to essential businesses only, I think the primary users of public transit will be people getting to those essential businesses. Everyone else avoids it as much as possible I think.

Perhaps a harsh reality we are all seeing is how much population density in each region can dramatically multiply the spread of COVID.

I love Toronto, the GTA. Spent most of the last 20 years working within the GTA and living there full/part time most of the last 10 years.

To give perspective from outside the densely populated areas, here are the stats of the region I currently call home in.

170,000 population spread out over 8,500 square kms. Mostly small towns/cities, but still plenty of schools, restaurants with indoor dining, gyms, LTHCs, factories with employees working closely together, etc.

Here's the COVID Cases for the entire year for this region to current:

That's it. 150 total cases. Zero deaths. Worth noting, even with the Second Wave upon all of us, 3 days since the last new reported case.

I feel for everyone living in the densely populated parts of Ontario, Canada and beyond.

I share these details only to give some perspective of why certain regions are being restricted/locked down once more and other regions will not be or at least delayed to have the same restrictions in place.

I don't understand why they didn't impose stage 2 last night at midnight. I guess they were still making the decision.

But people are going to be going out tonight to get their last night out indoors, especially on a Friday night. NOT ME. But trust me, it's happening.... I know of people who are making plans for tonight. This can't be good. :(
