Who the FUCK does he think he is going to the US and telling the effin POTUS to hurry up. Is this man a moron? If I were Obama and I had the decision set to be announced I would be FORCED to delay at least 6-8 months just to prove Canada exerted no influence on my decision. What a CLOWN!!!!

We should proceed with our own solution.

Build a pipeline east, build refineries in Ontario or Quebec, put a major oil terminal on the St.Lawrence.

Industry won't build the refineries because they perceive that they have the capacity and expertise elsewhere, but if we subsidized it we could specialize in that and industry would eventually see us asa place to invest in more facilities, once we get the ball rolling.

If we have a plan like that in the works the Americans well bend over backwards to give us a pipeline south in order to stop the development of a meaningful alternative.

Canada should table a ban on non refine products. See how the US likes that. They have such a ban in place. Thousands of high paying refinery jobs would be created. Of course since Harper is bought and paid for by the West it would never happen on his watch. Shipping oil through the St Lawrence is a terrible idea. The ship size is far to small for crude, but refined products can be moved though there. I think Ontario and Quebec as well as the US North East have a pretty huge market so the products will not need to be sent very far.

I agree if I were Obama I would sit on it a while just to prove a point. Harper also told an audience in NYC he wouldn't take no for an answer.

I would agree with you if, and it is a big if, we could find the money and other necessary resources to build a refinery. They do not come cheap, and they take a relatively long time to build, on account of many factors such as infrastructure, zoning, safety and environmental considerations. These are the reasons that big oil usually looks to existing refinery capacity to do the job. The question arises, which oil company would do this for Canada? Maybe, PET had a good idea with the National Energy Policy, even if it wasn't implemented well back in the day. One observation, and I am not defending these oppressive regimes of the past. South Africa, during apartheid, couldn't buy any fossil fuels, but had coal reserves. That is one reason that they looked at coal gasification. A similar situation existed during Nazi Germany and their emphasis on diesel fuel.

How long do you think that it would take for us to develop refinery capacity? Also, who runs the refinery capacity that we do have already in Canada? And, what transportation infrastructure do we have for crude oil that is quickly deployable within our borders at present time for our own domestic demands? Just some questions that need to be answered before we consider a ban.

Actually it is President Obama who is the idiot, then again this is no news.

The verdict of history will unfortunately not be kind.

I bet you if you got to look closer at Obama, he will have 666 tatooed on his body (Rev. 13:18).

Why, because he will not allow Canadian oil easy access to the US market which is awash in domestic oil

we can put an export tax on it. There is dormant refining capacity in several areas in the east.

We would have to subsidize with tax dollars, but get an experienced private operator to build and run it. With enough of a subsidy it will become attractive, and once it's there, it can snowball into an attractive place for further upgrades, spinoffs, related industry.
