Just checked the TD Waterhouse web page, and there are two sites for getting their GIC rates. On one site, the rates are 2.8, 3, 3, 3 and 3.05% for one through five years respectively. On the other site they have rates posted of 2.60,2.75,2.75,2.75 and 2.80%. Wow, the left hand and the right hand sure need to get acquainted!! Of course, a regular customer knows that better rates than those posted are available. (The time of checking the website was about 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, and the rates are those for TD Canada Trust)

The first list of rates you quoted are for their GICs, the second are for their Tern Deposits. The rates for the Term deposits are lower because you can redeem them before the term is up, usually at a lower rate. Similar products with that key difference.
And before some one asks - I don't work for them.
