Time for the "experts" to make their picks for the first round. We'll see who gets the most right by the end. There will be 7 series by the time we're done.

IMO, Mets will choke. Yankees get an easier route with the Tiggers who had to hang on for dear life. A's vs Twins is an awesome matchup. Its a pity Liriano won't make it but both squads have good pitching and good bullpens. Don't know if the A's bats can do enough damage though.

National League is a waste of time.

I thought the poll was supposed to show who each voter picked but it doesn't show on my screen.

I took:
Mets
Yanks
Twins
Cards

I think the Tigers would have matched up against the A's better, but New York's lineup will simply be too much. Minnesota and Oakland will be a tight series, but I give the edge to Minnesota because you have to pitch around one guy in the Oakland lineup.

The Cardinals stumbled into the playoffs, and beyond Carpenter their starters aren't all that great so I'd take the Padres. The Mets havent played a meaningful game in 2 months, but they're lineup is still the best in the NL while the Dodgers are mediocre at best, I'd take the Mets.

So to review:
Yankees
Twins
Padres
Mets

I'm a long suffering Mets fan, so of course I took the pessimistic route and chose the Dodgers. The Mets have pretty much played like crap for the last month of the season, although granted they had nothing really to motivate them. Still, they won 97 games without Pedro or Cliff Floyd for much of the season. Their pitching staff worries me, although their bulpen is solid. The teams played each other pretty close this year, the Mets winning 4 of 7.

The Game 1 and 2 pitching matchups will be interesting. Game 1 features Lowe for L.A. vs. Hernandez (El Duque) for N.Y. Both have plenty of big game experience. And then Game 2 is a classic matchup--if it were 1996--of Greg Maddux vs. Tom Glavine. Game 3 should be interesting, what happened to Brad Penny in the 2nd half? He was the All-Star starter but tailed off dramatically after the All-Star game. And Trachsel for the Mets is a bum, plain and simple. And a former Cub. Not a good sign.

Shrek (Frank Thomas) made the difference. Santana had one crappy inning but was otherwise superb, as was Zito, though as the commentators pointed out I do think the Twins helped Zito of trouble at some times.

Carlos Delgado now playing for the Mets. Hell, I'm rooting for blue-and-orange just out of loyalty for Big Carlos, one of the classiest and finest players ever to play in Toronto.

Your loyalty was well-founded, sir. Carlos went 4-5 with a homer and 2 rbi today, as the Mets edged the Dodgers, 6-5.

NYM lose Orlando Hernandez "El Duque" for the playoffs now too along with Pedro. There staters in order are Maine, Glavine, Trachsel (4.97 ERA), Perez (6.55 ERA 3-13 record) and Glavine for game 5. I did pick them before these injuries, but i sure wouldn't now.
Yeah, this doesn't look good for the Mets. From the way Met's manager Willie Randolph handled Game 1 today, however, it appears that he plans to go the bullpen early and often. The Mets had one of the best, if not the best, bullpen in baseball this season. While the traditional route in the post-season is to do it with starting pitching, it will be interesting to see if this approach can work.

hmm, guess I was wrong about the Twins and probably the Padres too...but tonight, Kenny Rogers was simply awesome. Made those Yankees look silly all night long with that curve ball he had going, I really hope Detroit finishes it off tomorrow!

I think Leyland motivated him by telling him the Yankees were really cameramen.

I had the Twins also. If the Yankees get knocked out then the two teams with the best records are gone.

That's a good line, shack, can I use it?

Ahem! You mean the two teams in the A.L. with the best records. The N.L. Mets won as many games as the Yankees, tying them for the best record in baseball.

Actually, I figured the Mets may have been at least close so I intentionally worded it vaguely.

So yeah, of course I meant in the A.L.

It's 7-0 Tigs right now, top of the 7th. Who'da thunk it?

I can tell people love the baseball playoffs around here, haha...

but what about those Detroit Tigers? Who would have guessed this in April, no one, except maybe Jim Leyland. This team somewhat resembles the White Sox of last season, lost the first game and then won 11 straight, well Detroit has won 7 in a row, and they have to be the favourites to win it all. While the Mets and Cards beat up on each other, the Tigers can chill. And the Tigers have something the others dont, starting pitching. They can throw Robertons, Rogers, Verlander, and Bonderman at you...while the Mets/Cards dont have 4 good starters combined!...for those who care, the World Series begins next Saturday.

I'm with you on that one. Hopefully they'll be up 3-1 after tonight's game.

I've died and gone to sports heaven..........Detroit.

As a Tiger's fan, I'd rather face the Mets(Still afraid of Bob Gibson and saw Mickey Lolich at the park Sat night and he's doesn't appear up to pitching another game seven:rolleyes: ). Plus, having a NY team will help attract more media attention.

Either way I can't wait. Haven't enjoyed a trip to the ball park so much since Gibson's homer in game 5 of '84 World Series.

Go Tigers
Go Wings
Go Pistons
Go State
and what the hell......go Blue.
