BBQ's where to get a good one?

Was out checking a few places, and am thinking about time for one of these stainless steel ones, that hopefully will stick around for awhile. Saw everything from 379-4000 dollars. Stainless steel grill too would be nice, from what I saw those started around $1150.

Just wondered if anyone had bought one recently and if it had been a good deal.

Go and check out the Fiesta outlet store on Walker Drive (near Torbram) in Brampton. They usually have some great deals there and assembly is often free

I looked at one in Sam's Club earlier in the year...big stainless steel unit, about $500.

I just replaced my old one, which was a Broil King, with the current version of the same model. The old one lasted nearly 10 years, and that is the reputation of the Broil King brand.

Weber is also excellent quality, and that is what, IMHO, you should be looking for: quality. Many of the expensive bells and whistles are not worth it, are not good value and are seldom used.

I did a lot of calling and research and found that Dickson Pro Hardware, on Avenue Road south of the 401, had the best prices, though it is a very competitive market place. I found their customer service to be superb: one very satisfied customer here!

there is a place on willowdale boulevard, north of sheppard, that has a huge selection. forget the name - its on the west side.

I am currently in the market for one right now too. I have been to a few locations so far and here is what I have found:

1) Sobie's BBQ at 162 Willowdale

They have a great selection. Mostly highend stuff. One brand they sell is an infra-red burner (TEC, I think is the name); quality of burner you would want in order to match the searing quality technique of places like Mortons, etc. Very nice but Not cheap. Units run $2,600 + tax.

2) Appliance Canada at 8701 Jane Street and Ontario Gas & BBQ at 3310 Langstaff Ave (just around the corner from AC). They have the full range of Broil King, Weber (same as Sobies) plus others such a Dacor (kitchen appliance mfger), etc. The thing about the Webers, that I do not like, is their penchant for placing all the controll knobes on the table surface, robbing you of working surface. Go figure.

Have to agree with Perry Mason about the B&W's. Not sure if having a side burner is necessary but then, if Toronto ever got another black-out, boy would that come in handy to boil water on the side while you cook your meals.

Anyways, my hunt continues this weekend. My limit is $500. I'll check out the Cosco and Dickson Pro. There are a number of Home Hardwares that sell them too; Guzzlevet, how about you checking out the Sams and we'll compare notes later (whats your cost limit?).

Home Depot is pretty good for selection and their prices are fair. The follow-up service if you have problems is good at Home Depot as well.

Already checked out Home Depot (and The Tire). Their bbq's are okay. Standard inexpensive ($150-$350 range) aluminum frame types. Ones that were higher priced, such as Weber models, etc. can be found elsewhere for less. They sell some steel model. Look nice but lids are very heavy and I think they will rust faster than the Al+3 models.

Two words. Vermont Castings. They are more expensive than the (fiesta, broil king) regular types of grills, but in the long run will last you longer. Granted it depends on how much outdoor cooking you do. The VC has a built in smoker and rotisserie. For that real BBQ flavour you can't beat that. You're looking at $1500 but it is well worth it, and you can get them at Home Depot, but I suggest looking at a store that specializes in grills and barbeques (there is a BIG difference between the two)

Read the article in todays paper. Seems that the Chinese are invading the BBQ market now with cut rate, subsidized units if you can believe that. They've gone from 1% to over 20% of the market in two years.
Fiesta (our local Brampton manufacturer) is taking it on the chin. They've been laying off staff and giving up market share.

Make sure you buy Canadian!!!!!

I bought the Imperial 90 from BroilKing a few years back. It's great. But over priced. If you a real pro or enthusiast, drop the $1,000-$1500.00 bucks. It will be worth it. But the truth of the matter is, I use the rotisserie only a few times a year. And the side burner is handy, once in awhile. If you like to smoke your meat ( don't we all ), buy a smoker. You can get them from Canadian Tire for $50.00. Assembly is apain in the ass, but if you do a lot of smoking, there great. If your just an average joe wanting to BBQ year round. Get a BroilKing or Fiesta for around $500.00. Get a cast lid, and anything between 50,000 BTU and up will be fine. DO NOT get a glass see through cover. It wastes heat and gets filthy in a materr of weeks. Thus redering it useless.

You can also check your local by laws. I've hooked mine to run on natural gas from my house. thus never having to go fill up a propane tank. The drawback is natural gas burns at a lower temperature than propane. And thus takes longer to heat up and can never reach over 800 degrees. But really, how much heat do you need.

Finally, wood and charcoal still gives you the best flavour. But I can come real close with high heat and a smoker box placed on the grill. You can get a smoker box from Canadian Tire for around $30.00 bucks.

Broil King

I agree with Perry Mason.
I bought a Broil King in 1993 and it is still working great, at the cottage. I have since bought a new Broil King same updated model is now 2 years old and is fantastic. Great products that really last.

For the last 17 yrs my BBQs (currently a Weber Kettle) have been ones I've rescued from the trash. Paid a few bucks now and then for new parts. For some reason no one seems to think you can fix a BBQ. Well, ya can.

you bbqrs out there. I'm still looking. Have been to Sam's, Costco, Home Depot, and several other smaller places and have found the Napoleon. They look awesome, stainless steel grills, rotisserie and main body construction.

Looking at a last years model, already assembled and think I'll head back to see the others again to compare.

Anyone used Figidaire's SS models? They have a couple ofhigher end units.

One thing about the Napoleon that I like and I'm not sure of in the others is the electric starter.

One in Costco had a smoker tray, did I mention I hate shopping.

found in Newmarket and Ballantrae, very nice with rotisserie. Last years model normally 1700 but assembled and with cover for 1300. Found another place with this years model and these are assembled, for 1350. Got some help to pay. Looks like the best bet.

Check out Costco if you are looking for a S/S grill.
They usually carry quality stuff and satisfaction is 100% guaranteed.
I don't know anywhere else that can say that.
