I am suppose to get 7 MB. the best I can get is 3.1 MB They give me some bull shit that I am too far away from the telephone exchange. I told them I was 4 blocks away. ..........
One constraint of DSL is indeed distance from the telephone exchange - the farther you are the "weaker" the signal is. Note that your physical distance from that exchange might be 4 blocks but that the "wire" carrying your signal might travel quite a distance to get to your home. Internal wiring in your home can also affect the signal.
Cable does not not have this particular constraint although as the ads say, you are sharing the bandwidth with your neighbours. For example, mine is supposed to be 7mb, but I get around 5mb except for busy periods when the neighbourhood kiddies are downloading everything in sight - not too shabby.
Oh yeah, service from both Bell and Rogers sucks.
