I do not get the speed that was promised me from Bell.

I am suppose to get 7 MB. the best I can get is 3.1 MB They give me some bull shit that I am too far away from the telephone exchange. I told them I was 4 blocks away. They said that they would look into it and never got back to me. Go to www.2wire.com there is a speed checker there.

16mbit of throttled bandwidth, who wants that????

Even on their regular connection they're unable to deliver full speed. How are they going to deliver at 16?

What's the point of having a 16mbit connection if your bandwidth usage cap is 100GB/month? You're paying more just to reach the cap faster.

Oh and if you use torrents, Bell still caps it at 30kbytes/sec from 6pm-2am on weekdays.

So what are you paying for that? And what are the cap limits for your plan?

I just did the speedtest thing and got 6774 d/l and 493u/l and I am using the Rogers 7Mb version @49.99

Also my ping time was 19ms. Don't know why yours was so high.

That is exactly $49.95/month.
It does have caps but I dl lots of movies, music....etc and still wont come anywhere close to the caps.

For $49.95/month I think its a good deal

But BELL cant cap rapidshare downloads.
So just stick to Warez sites and you be ahright

Ask them to change your profile (to a higher one) and put you on a "remote". This will bring you up to at least 5MB.

I'm at 4.76Mbp, and don't seem to have an issue with the speed at all. Of course, I'm not really big on downloading movies, but for the everyday stuff this is working just great.

Me too. I'm supposed to get "up to 7" but actually get 2.83 on a good day.

Bell and Rogers only care about taking the customers money... and then when it comes time for providing customer service... they basically want you to fuck off.

One constraint of DSL is indeed distance from the telephone exchange - the farther you are the "weaker" the signal is. Note that your physical distance from that exchange might be 4 blocks but that the "wire" carrying your signal might travel quite a distance to get to your home. Internal wiring in your home can also affect the signal.

Cable does not not have this particular constraint although as the ads say, you are sharing the bandwidth with your neighbours. For example, mine is supposed to be 7mb, but I get around 5mb except for busy periods when the neighbourhood kiddies are downloading everything in sight - not too shabby.

Oh yeah, service from both Bell and Rogers sucks.

BELL has delivered, my speeds are consistently around 6Mb, its not a little faster its a lot faster.

I can now download a standard size Hollywood movie in about 1 hour and 15 min.
(depending on the uploader).

at 7 Mb/s, that is how long it should take if it was download at full bandwidth.
But you never get full bandwidth though, it all depends on who's uploading the torrent and how fast his/her upload speed is
