What was your best and your worst investment in the past ten years? Ok, I'll go first.
Best Investment: Research in Motion
Worst Investment: Too numerous to mention. Ok, I'll mention two: Nortel and Citigroup.

Best investment: a half-share in a fitness club: who knew there are so many people out there who want to pretend to lose weight?
Shoppers Drug Mart, bought when it was known as Imasco....I've been compounding my way to riches with that one.
Citigroup when it was trading at around $12/share back in 1992...I bought loads of out of money options on a lark when I heard of the arab sheik's buying a huge stake in the bank...that launched quite a few trips to the
friendly neighbourhood SPs
When favourable, I've been 'hitting singles' with a collar strategy on my long term stocks for about 15 years now, a strategy that returns a nice stream of income while allowing me to sleep at night.

Worst investment: I was dumb enough to take the bait on Barrick Resources, on which I was making some decent profits when the fraud hit. That one hurt.

Best investment: Nortel. Worked for the company at the time. Paid off handsomely.

Worst investment: buying another round at the bar. Sometimes I think I'm just pissing that money away.

Did you mean "Bre-X"? At one time, the market cap of Bre-X was greater than that of mighty TD Bank. Go figure.

Retirement Planning

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $14.00.

With AIG, you would have had $6.67 left of the original $1000.00.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

If you had purchased $1000 of CitiBank stock you would have $8.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of wine one year ago, drank all the wine, then turned in the bottles for the recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to Drink heavily and recycle.

Worst: ex wife
Best: Hemosol. Bought 5000 shares at $1.24 sold at $23.10. It eventually tanked when they realized that the artificial hemoglobin did not work as well as expected. Great concept but needs more work.
