Their sneaky way of doing business, that is.

We ordered the Bell Fibe TV special promotion in January 2015. The combo includes TV, Internet and Home phone. At the time of signing up, we were given two free programming specials and we chose International and Movie. The first bill came in (online) and since the total was as expected we didn't give the bill a detailed look. When the latest new bill arrived, the total charge on the TV was about twice as much as prieviously. On closer examination, I found out that on top of their special Movie programming promotion ( which we accepted), they added three other movie programmings without our knowledge and consent ( they added Super Ecran, Super Channel and Holywood Suite which we didn't order). I find it disturbing they would add something extra and then charge us for them.

The other issue is that they require customers to inform them to discontinue the special promotion when they end. I think this would amount to negative billing which is illegal, no?

On the Negative Option Billing, I'd say No.

It was clearly a time-limited special price, not an ongoing rate with no known end-date. So if your interest was going to end when the special price ended, you could have told them that and instructed them to cancel the option on that date, at any time from Day1 to whenever you noticed you'd missed the Date of Pain. But you did not; they're just delivering what you signed for at the rate-structure you said, "Yes" to.

In NegOptionBilling, stuff you didn't actually buy is added to your account as an extra cost unless you get it removed There's never an option point for you to say anything but, "No".

EVERY one of these "Free" offers seems to continue after the free period unless you take action to cancel.

Whenever I sign up for things like that I put a reminder in my phone calendar to cancel.

AND I NEVER give Bell, Rogers etc my credit card for pre-authorized billing. They will fuck you EVERY time! You have some leverage if you are always paying 60 days in arrears to have bullshit charges reversed

Such practices are illegal in BC

They should be illegal throughout Canada

Every now and then phone up your providers and tell them you are dropping them

They will counter with a lower rate

I find rogers billing a fuckin night mare. I just look at the final number after tax
Well, Rogers was another story! When I cancelled their subscriptions, I took everything, routers etc., back to the store. The young lady took a long time to document all the returns and I was given a receipt. But when the final bill arrived, they charged me for an item which I had returned already. After my complaint, they investigated, and came back saying they had no record of my returning the particular unit. What a pain dealing with these businesses!

Where have you guys been living for the last 20 years??? Under a rock? The "service" levels of both Rogers and Bell have been well documented on this and other forums for quite some time. Their billing practices have been flirting with criminal for years as well.

I have irradiated both of the tyrannical companies from my life completely! It took some doing, but I'm much happier as a result.

I negotiated a discount with Bell for my mom but they didn't tell that it was short-lived (I thought at least a year, but it's 6 months). I'll have to threaten to move the business elsewhere when that time is up. Rogers are pricks too. We need more competition so knock these oligopolies up a bit.

Rogers when I phoned to cancel my cancel with them even went so far as to give me a discount..
