"The victims are then encouraged to download a free app called “Anydesk” which gives the scammer remote access to the victim’s computer. The victim is then asked to log into their bank account, and once they do, the scammer withdraws money from the victim’s account."

It was a phone call that came out of the blue. An Ontario man was told he had won $3.5 million in a lottery he never entered.
A lot of seniors who are not quite there would fall for this. They just think they ar evening helped.

I disagree.
Some of these scams do their best SEO to get to the top of Google search results. So if you Google "online banking help" they're the first result that will pop up. For that scam, the person calls the scammers who are only too happy to help but need you to run anydesk or any other remote desktop program. Since the person called them to start the process, it feels legit and they go through with it. Not sure what happened in this case, but it isn't always where they call you saying there's a problem with Windows and they're here to help.
In that case, they're just gullible. Seniors, even young people, anyone can fall victim to it.
Anyone rooting for con artists over the naive or gullible has something wrong in their head.
This is why I constantly give my friends shit over things forwarded through Facebook Messenger.

They'll ask: "How can you not have a computer in this day and age?"
I reply: "Because I'm blind."
