The opinion section will be very clear about what it will engage with.

Is it any surprise that Luigi Mangione is a hero to most of working class America?
You nailed it.

The working class is being laughed at. Squeezed financially as they pay crazy high percentages of taxes (while the rich do not). They get left to die because of fucking greedy insurers. Trump is wise as he got into his pocket the 50% of absolutely dumb American just out of his racism. He gave them a voice. But that voice will, I hope, eventually turn against him and all the oligarch billionaires.

Are you all that whiny and delusional? Newspapers are dying. The Washington Post had been dying long before Bezos came along. This ain't 1973.

Maybe the change in direction is a last ditch attempt to stop the hemorrhaging.

This is the only smart comment I saw in this thread. Legacy media is hemorrhaging cash. The LA times owner has spent almost $1B to keep that paper afloat. It makes no sense why Bezos wants to just throw away money. The guy is clearly smart enough and he is adapting.

It may seem like leftist thought and opinion is popular but it’s not. The media and the western governments just made it seem that way.

1973...isn't that when America was great?
I thought it was about making America great again, why double down on everything that's not making America great?

I don't think anyone is seriously upset about the Post, more like commentary on what anyone with half a brain understands.
Further evidence of the oligarchy and that the media is there to serve and protect the interests of the elites.
All this nonsense about MAGA while doubling down on the rot.

I understand where your point is coming from. I think few American newspapers are doing well regardless of content.

Investigative journalism is certainly dying with the newspapers. I just wonder how much real investigative journalism the Washington Post has done in recent years. As far as editorials and commentary, WaPo would appear to be redundant to the New York Times' opinion pages.

I think you are ranting.
If people aren't reading WaPo, that's the reality of the world you live in. People would much rather get their news from TV and the internet. There are plenty of media outlets with liberal voices.

Annnnd yoooou fight oligarchy by having one of the richest men in the world subsidize losses so that WaPo can get their opinion out??

PS- This should be a good thing for the New York Times. America just doesn't need two nationally-oriented liberal newspapers.

I can assure you I'm not ranting.
But your post sounds like a serious rant because you wrote all of that ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ right after I wrote this.

No, I'm not ranting. You're the ranty pooper!

This isn't about MAGA and Oligarchy. It's the hard reality of the newspaper business. I wouldn't be surprised if WaPo wasn't publishing a print edition in five years.

Many of the good investigative journalists are moving to substack subscriptions. So users can pay them directly for their articles.

Just regarding Washington Post and LA Times, both owners have tried to make it less biased but culture keeps fighting this change. I don’t think there is any good investigative journalism left there.
