Blackberry or Palm Treo!

Hello, hello! I would like to purchase a new or used Blackberry (preferably the newest model: 7100r) or the new Palm One Treo650. Looking at the retail prices, makes me cringe. I know that both of these devices are excellent quality, etc but I can't make up my mind on which one to purchase.

What are your thoughts?!

Also, if anyone here has either device and they'd like to sell it, I'd be interested in purchasing! Oh and if anyone here can get a brand new one but at a discount (meaning you work at a phone store or it fell off the back of a truck...damn speed bumps! Lol.), I'm also interested in this option!

:)

I use a Blackberry myself and i was using a Treo 600 just so i could use the SSH feature for maintaining my clients servers. I can now get the same software for the Blackberry and it feels so much better and much more reliable. I am much happier with my Blackberry but wish i had waited for the Bluetooth version to Sync it wirelessly with my laptops.
Now you have to decide Rogers vs Telus. I just switched from Rogers to Telus after 9 years with Roges/Cantel/At&T. The sound quality and signal strength is much better with Telus. Only thing with Telus is they don't have the fancy phones ...... but i prefer reliability over fashion. It happened to often that the Rogers system would be overloaded and i would not be able to get the Rogers service. It happened 6 times and that 6 times to often. So far with Telus i have found the connections very very consistent.

dont get the 7100r

I bought my balckberry is January and got the 7100 I took it back in a week, it is more of a phone than anything, it is hard to type because the keyboard is almost like a regular cell phone. I ended up with a 7290 brand new and love it, the phone is better than any phone I have ever used and communicating with it via email is so easy to type.

It is a bit bigger than a phone but compared to the 7100r size wise it si nearly the same the 7100 is just longer and the 7290 is wider, I wear it on my hip all day and dont even notice it.

check ebay for them they are pretty cheap and some re even brand new.

Blackberry.

Push e-mail is amazing.
Which is why I would probably recommend the Treo - I doubt she has access to a Blackberry Server on her native mail account - and if you're forwarding mail then you just might as well use the 15 minute polling in the Treo.

PS the 7100r is a phone first and email second - its ok if you only want to read emails and reply to the occasional email. For heavier use get a Treo or Crackberry

Go for the Blackberry

I have the new Blackberry 7100 with rogers and I love it. I always get my e-mails and I am even able to get my PM's from terb and reply to them anywhere I am.

In this industry every girl should have one.

Treo

I have been using the Treo 600 (I think the only difference is the bluetooth wireless earpeice) for three months now and love it. My buddy got the 600 with me and traded it in for the new Blackberry, and he love his too. I don't think either way you'll be disappointed. :)

Thanks for the replies and advice! I went to Bell mobility today and took a look at the Treo and Blackberry and their respective data/ phone use packages. I love the Treo 600! It's so sleek and sexy and easy to use! I'm so excited!!! :)

The price is right, but what about Bell Mobility's service? I have been with Telus for my personal cellphone and I think they are wonderful BUT, they don't have my TREO! Lol. What should I do?

You have to decide first what you want the unit for. Decide what you want, then get the device best suited to those needs. Do you want:

1) email on the go
2) a phone
3) a device which can keep contacts, calendar, a few funs things like games etc

If you want email, you'll be hard-pressed to do better than a Blackberry 7700 series. Typing messages on a Blackberry 7100 is not as intuitive as using a standard QWERTY keyboard. If email is important to you, get a 7700 series Blackberry.

If you want a phone with some access to email, consider the Blackberry 7100 or the Palm.

If you want a device with contacts, calendar and other things that can also act as a phone, get the Palm.

Next you need to consider where you intend to use your device. If you will be using it only in North America it doesn't really matter. If you intend to ever use it in Europe or in the Caribbean, you should consider Rogers as they use the GSM / GPRS system as compared to Bell / Telus CDMA.

Personally I always wonder how regular consumers use a Blackberry or the Treo. Without the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) I think that the functionality of a Blackberry would be limited. Similarly I think the Treo would have limited functionality if it's not directly integrated into your email server. Having said that, it's not impossible to have an account at Sympatico.ca or Rogers.com and just have those emails forwarded. But I think having a BES makes things a lot better.

Treo is the why to go.

I use the treo with Rogers At&T. I have no issues with Rogers service. I use the treo for my business all the time. When I'm on the road I can keep in touch with my business and look in on the servers and check my emails etc etc... I've been using Rogers wireless for my business for years now.. I have no complaints and they take care of me real well and also my employees..

One of my client have the blackberry enterprise server and it rocks. I still get all my email from various accounts and also sync my blackberry with my Powerbook and powermac. I use PocketMac MissingSync software for the Mac and it works great.
All my contacts notes tasks and calendars are synced to my Blackberry and or back depending on which has the newest modification date.

i used to work at bell mobility, i quit, too much bullshit and customer complaints.
i got fed up with it.
i WORKED FOR THEM and had to fight to get my $1,000 credit which they screwed me over in billing for 2 phones.
unlike some people, i had the edge cuz i worked there and knew what to say, in order to get the coin.
if that doesn't convince you

Everyone has positive & negative experiences with these companies... not one of these companies is perfect. IMHO, I think Bell's infrastructure from coast-to-coast and across North America is unmatched, especially since they've been around for a very long time.

RE: the BES, the BB Enterprise Server isn't necessary for personal use. Your email accounts are managed by the BB Web Client with Bell Mobility. The Web Client is an on-line service.
