My old 7290 is biting the dust and am planning on an upgrade.
My understanding is that when I get the new blackberry they will take my SIM card out of the old and put it into the new and along with it all my addresses, calendar etc. right? To set up the new one for e-mail is all the data on passwords for e-mail accounts etc. on the SIM card or do I have to find them and try to re-install?
Anyone with experience on how this works??
Many thanks
S

Use the Blackberry Desktop Manager to make a backup of your old blackberry and restore to the new one. I think the newest version of Desktop Manager also comes with a migration tool....

For a corporate blackberry, a change is made in the BES server with the new handset details.

For personal BB's, I believe the push of the blackberry email services (eg you@rogers.blackberry.net) is tied to the PIN and ESN/IMEI of the handset, so you have to go into the webmail site and change your handheld. I think.

Thanks for the input folks.
Went to Rogers and got a new BB Curve 8230. They did all the transfering. All we needed to do was register the new device id against the SIM card and everything was there, calendar, addresses etc. Took about 10 minutes for them to do it in the store.
Now trying to work out all the new features...at least new for me, like a camera. Never had one in a phone before but might come in handy making a call in a MP......just kidding, of course. :D

Curve!

Don't forget that if you change blackberries again, you are going to have to change you IMEI and PIN for your BIS account. As well, don't forget to tell your friends, your new pin for BB messenger. ^_^

Thanks Noir
Right...change my IMEI...searches manual, comes up blank...?
PIN, didn't realize it changed. If I PIN somebody, will they then have the new PIN or do I have to dig it out of the bowels of the bb to give it to them?

You don't have to search to find the pin! Go to Options (the wrench icon) then status. Your pin and imei are listed there! (ahh...the wonders of working in the blackberry technical support team have proved useful! haha) If your IMEI doesn't come up under Status, you may have to either manually input it or powercycle. (take out the battery, and put it back in.)

When you PIN someone, they will see your new PIN. Make sure that you tell them, otherwise they won't add you. (Make sure that you go through that short set up wizard, when you first start BB messenger, otherwise you will not have a Username associated with your PIN.)
