for cheap cds you probably have to burn them at the slowest rate rather than at the fastest rate your burner can write.

Quality of your CD Burner is Key

If you have a good quality CD burner to begin with there is less chance in making 'coasters.'

Plextor is the burner I chose a few years back after reading reports on its great performance with all media used overall. Quite a few salesmen commented back then they considered Plextor the top burner out, one even said "it would burn any media and would probably even burn on a postcard if inserted!" That sold me. Still use that 4 year old Plextor burner and can honestly say I haven't made a single coaster! Have used all types of media from 'brand name' to 'no-name' and they all worked flawlessly.

BTW burned a couple hundred CDs so far with 0 coasters made.

I used to bring 'em back from Sam's Club in Buffalo. 80 minute Maxell's with slim, coloured case---about 50-60 cents (Cdn) each. I've still got about 150 of them.

They are all cheap over here.

Just got 100 of them 80 minute Maxell's on a spindle for $15 USD @ Office Depot in Buffalo a month ago.
A Buffalo Office Max, had 100 slimline cases for free after rebate back then also.
