Blue-Ray vs DVD Question

I guess with the Blue-Ray win over DVDs, we are into buying new machines.

Question: Do the Blue-Ray machines play the old DVD's?

I tried a Blue-Ray on my Mac laptop. It won't play. But that is playing "up." Does anyone know whether Blue Ray machines will play "down" -- i.e. lower technology?

Also, can the player on a Mac laptop be upgraded to BR?

Yes BR players play standard DVDs, and generally play them better because of upconverting.

Not sure about BR drives for a Mac laptop, but I doubt it at the moment.
