The organisation La Passerelle I.D.E. received a federal grant of $1.5 million to rescue women from prostitution in Toronto. It appears they could not find any sex workers to save. Two members of the staff of the organisation were asked to invite some of their friends to a leadership and empowerment event. The 26 women who attended had their details collected and their names were connected with the program to help women transition out of the sex trade. The women who attended all work in marketing. consulting, public relations and government.
The lawyer for the organisation says the program is meant to save women from informal prostitution. This is defined as entering into intimate relationships based on economic dependence. He says women in this type of relationship do not see themselves as prostitutes.

Doesn’t seem like these chucklefucks even got to the “all sex workers are victims” stage. Seems like they straight up conned the government out of grant money and got caught (because they’re idiots), so they came up with the “informal prostitution” thing as an excuse so they’re not charged with fraud.

For every "informal prostitute", there is an "informal John or informal Jane". Yes? No?

This reminds me of the story about the woman who was "sexually assaulted" on the TTC but wasn't. The TTC constables approached this woman on the subway and said she was sexually assaulted. She insisted she wasn't sexually assaulted, the TTC constables insisted she was.
