Anyone seen any good ones? I wasn't impressed with Future Shop or Best Buy this year.

Naw, there's not really anything mind blowing out there. Some good deals, but nothing awesome.

I think maybe it is because prices are so low now due to the economy that there isn't much room to go lower.

For eg:
Canadian tire is advertising a 12 volt dewalt drill for $50.00 OFF, big fricken deal, it's been $50.00 at least 6 times this year so far....

Another one is advertising a Nikon D3000 for $100.00 off at $449.00.....well it ISN'T $100.00 off, the same fricken camera is selling for $470.00 elsewhere.....oh wow, u save a WHOLE 30 ficken dollars.
(oh, and it is a lesser quality lens too).

I know I always look forward to the sales at Sam's (Sam the Record Man) on Yonge. He's always given great discounts on Boxing Day.

--- Edited to add the following, in response to the responses ---

Yes, it was torn down this year, having closed a couple years ago. My little joke seemed funnier to me at the time I originally posted it. And now I just don't want to add to the end of the thread ...

Don't know if it was torn down but the doors were closed....I was just going to add:

LOOKED forward to as opposed to look forward to....

Frankly, I went there a couple of times and unless you were into boxed sets or rare imports I didn't find the BD sales all that great........

The Black Friday sale in Canada over a month ago was this years Boxing Day (to try to compete with the US one) so you won't see as many amazing deals.

Two of the things I'm considering purchasing are a Blu Ray player and a home theatre system. Check out the two theatre systems from Sony and Samsung at Future Shop (both $499); are either of these good? I'm not a tech guro and don't need the latest and greatest; just looking for a good quality system.

I hate the minimum this and that per store or chainwide. Don't forget this is an opportunity to clear stock of older models.

Well, that is to tell you that all stores will have stock, at least a minimum number. Not a maximum number. least you will know that the store will have SOME units before you trek out at 4 am lol.....

Keeb: as for the quality of those systems. Your best bet is to go listen to them. All the specs in the world aren't going to help you if you don't like the way it sounds.

If you're in an apartment or condo, you don't want 1000000 watts. It will drive your neighbours bonkers. You want something that will allow you to hear all the details without blasting through the walls.

As for quality: any brand name makes a "good" system. Stay away from Bose, they're over hyped/priced. Look for one with features that make it easy to use. I bought a pioneer amp last year that had a self setup mic. You place the mic where you normally sit and it adjusts the sound from each speaker. Then you can tweak it to suit your preference.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

Other than wrapping paper and christmas lights, boxing day sales are a sham.

Why have a big sale when your store is packed with people?

Have the sale in February when the store is empty and the Visa bills are keeping people away. It's only logical.

Dunno how it's a sham. The hype gets people out and there's plenty of sales being made.

If you want to stay home and be grumpy, no one's stopping you.

No kidding. I bought a new computer last week. Same one is in the Boxing Day ad for $100 less than I paid except mine included a 23" monitor and there is no monitor in the BD price.

Bought an external hard drive as well and it is in the flyer for the same price.

Gonna stay home and load up on porn. :p

I believe with the dollar conversion, shipping charges and duties if any, the prices of consumer goods in the U.S are still way better than our Canadian prices with taxes included...
It's not even close. We are constantly getting raped here aside from the consumer goods. Gas, wireless, booze, toll roads, airfare, taxes.........we overpay for everything here.

Same here in the States. BB had a couple good Black Friday sale items and that was it.
Since then their prices were not anything worth getting excited over. Right now BB has a 1TB internal Seagate HHD with 5 yr warranty for $89.99 and that is it!

JC Penny's on the other hand has had terrific sales going on since Black Friday. Plenty of vehicles at the Malls with Ontario plates.
