Boy, 11, Reportedly Shoots Dead 8-Year-Old Neighbor After She Said He Couldn't See Her Puppy

An 11-year-old boy reportedly shot dead his eight-year-old neighbor because she would not let him see her puppy, according to witnesses.

Latasha Dyer reportedly said her daughter McKayla was playing outside their home in White Pine, Tennessee on Saturday evening when the neighbor asked her through an open window if he could see her puppy. When she said no, the boy shot her, Dyer told WATE.

Jefferson County Sheriff Bud McCoig said the boy used his dad's 12-gauge shotgun to kill McKayla from inside his home, the Associated Pressreported.

Deputies who were called to the scene found the little girl on the ground with a chest wound. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was arrested on first-degree murder charges.

Dyer said of her daughter: "She was a precious little girl, she was a mommy’s girl, no matter how bad of a mood you were in she could always make you smile."

She reportedly added that the boy had previously picked on her daughter but it stopped when she contacted their school principal.

NRA will be out soon to say that the problem was that the 8 year old didn't have a gun.

In Canada you must secure a gun in a secure locked box with the ammunition in a separate locked box. In the USA the gun laws vary by state. We do not know if the gun was loaded and leaning behind a door. In some states no laws would have been broken if the gun was loaded and in easy access of a child.

There are sociopaths everywhere. When I was in kindergarten I remember the nuns bringing in a father of a child to show him what his son had done to the other kids. His son Simon had scratched up more than half the kids and the nun had the kids line up for his father to see. Some kids do not know right from wrong.

What an irresponsible parent. If he had taught his little girl to shoot, she would have lived.

.
CORRECTION .... In Canada you can have your ammunition locked together with your gun in a secure box ( gun safe ) as long as your gun is not loaded . You can even have your magazine loaded but it can't be in the gun but it can be sitting beside your gun in your safe.

None of your guns need to have a trigger lock when they are in your safe .

What a sad thing to happen. The loss of this child is an affront to civilized society. The violence inherent in popular culture and the resolution of problems with guns is partially to blame

Second amendment rights
Second amendment rights have nothing to do with this situation . The problem was that the gun was not stored properly . Like with any law that is on the books , not everyone follows the laws . Case in point ... drunk driving is illegal in all states and provinces . Does that stop some people from driving while intoxicated ???? NO not always .

3 small kids and their grandfather were killed by a drunk driver recently . The laws on the books didn't stop that guy from driving while intoxicated .
