Bush vetoes stem cell bill

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 6 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Pushing back against the Democratic-led Congress, President Bush vetoed a bill Wednesday that would have eased restraints on federally funded embryonic stem cell research.

Democrats, who had made the stem cell legislation a top priority when they took control of the House and Senate in January, were quick to denounce the president's decision.

"This is just one example of how the president puts ideology before science, politics before the needs of our families, just one more example of how out of touch with reality he and his party have become," Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., told the Take Back America conference of liberal activists Wednesday.

One has to wonder if Bush is capable of appreciating the delicious irony of his statement that "destroying an embryo to obtain its stem cells is tantamount to taking human life, and he says taxpayer money can not be used for this purpose."

But every day, in the name of oil and and assets owned by other sovereign countries we covet, we're mowing down men, women, and children in Iraq and Afghanistan (and who knows where next), and Bush has absolutely no problems with the use of taxpayer money to take the lives of these people.

In your head
..I think you need the detail of the bill..it had more to do with how the research was funded, then it had to do with the research itself..
