I am looking to buy a new car in the next coming year and would love some opinions on some cars.

I am thinking of going with a Volvo C30, Toyota Prius, VW CC, Honda Accord Hybrid.

Thoughts?

You'll get better responses if you say what type of car you're looking for and why, how much you drive, what type of weather conditions you drive in, how much cargo space you need, etc.

Volvo = expensive maintainace, expensive repairs after warranty. Good resale value but Honda and Toyota will get you slightly better % wise. Volks = very expensive repairs after the fifth year, resale value lowest of the bunch.

Toyota Prius

Comes fully loaded with the Toyota quality. Can't be beat in that bunch.

You did choose a fairly diverse selection of cars...:)

I am looking for a somewhat sporty car that drives well. I do a lot of long distance driving across Canada and want something that is a good high milage vehicle. Cargo space and interior space aren't really a need as I don't have a family.

Geez Jillian STAY AWAY FROM VW!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do you say that?

My 1979 VW Beetle only cost me $8000 in repairs this year, is that high? Then again I bought a lemon from a really crappy dealership.

My sister has been driving VW's for years and swears by them.

I have been driving Toyota's now for years and swear by them. They might not be the most luxurious or classy cars on the road, but they are well made, fuel efficient, and last a LONG time.

I would continue doing research.
As the time approaches, start test driving and log month-to-month what the sales incentives are.

Will the new car have the CUPID's logo on the doors? Pink color would be good too.

Most cars are fine for the first two or three years so it's best to concentrate on the image. :))

Don't buy Hybrid. It is too early. For long distance it is not resonable at all.
Toyota Camry or Honda Accord the best choice for now.

You also might want to keep in mind to buy something that was built here. Toyota, Honda and others build good quality cars that are built here. Rumour only, but I heard that foreign built cars might end up getting "hurt" because of the falling demand for domestically built cars.;)

I recommend you buy Consumer Reports annual auto edition (month of April) which is now on the newstands. This is an excellent information resource for new models and used.

The Toyota Prius is a top rated valued for money buy and has excellent reliability. I would wait for 2010 model, should be available by the Fall, as they are bringing in slightly larger engine but with better gas mileage and several other improvements.

I think Honda dropped the Accord Hybrid a couple of years ago. Toyota Camry still has a hybrid model that is also very well reviewed.

Honda is bringing a new hybrid to market that is a brand new model that will be targeted at the Prius I believe it should be available later this year.

With the Volvo and Volkswagen you are getting into smaller market segments for servicing and resale.

Volkswagen does have a reputation for being trouble prone particularly for new models.

What?! Nothing from the big three??? :D

Tells ya something doesn't it! (Can't say that I blame you... I am Honda/ Toyota man myself...)

I haven't purchased a new car in 20 years. Nothing is more frustrating than watching 30% of your investment flush down the drain when you drive off the lot.

That being said...Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry are excellent cars. I am currently looking for a used Mercedes E320 4Matic. I have found a few...but none in the price range I want.
