I know that this is kinda off topic, but I've decided to go on a vacation this winter here is the list I've narrowed down to

mexico-caribean side
the bahammas
The dominican
Jamaica

I'll be looking for a family friendly 4 or 5 star all inclusive resort that has it's own private beach. My son will be travelling with me, so I'm nortlooking for a party...the main thing for me is white sands, clear blue water, and relaxation. I really want to have a tropical vacation..I'm not interested in going to the parts of mexico and the dominican tjhat basically look alot like BC( from the videos I watched online anyway)..well guys what are your thoughts?;)

If you can get right to Cozumel by plane that is a great place.

If I had a kid to take with me:

The Mayan Riveria has some outstanding hotels that are not outrageously priced. Be sure to spend a day at Xcaret (I've been to a lot of "theme parks", but this one is unusual and terrific) and spend some snorkling time at Xel-Ha; rent a car there, rather than taking the tourist buses. The Mayan ruins are also worthwhile; fun even for a kid.

Tonyb.....great places to see alright...kids love them...depending on the age.....but staying in that area you tend to stay in huge large resorts....I prefer Cozumel right off shore.....only a short ferry ride across and all the places in Coz offer trips to those places.

Rach.....look at Go Travel Direct...they fly right out of Ottawa and have great deals....

And always read reviews on Travel Advisory...I find them great for accurate reviews

Good point about Coz. I'll have to try it sometime.

Then of course, there's always Belize....fabulous eco tours at really nice lodges.

There's a couple of really quaint hotels near Chichen Itza; it would be so cool to experience sunrise and sunset there without the tourists; they're right on the site. if you look hard you will probably find a few nearer the Mayan Riveriera. But she did say that she was looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel.

The Carribbean coast of Mexico doesn't have much in the way of mountains, so it really won't look or feel like BC!

About the private beach thing....

On the Mayan Rivera, you won't be bothered much by people trying to sell you stuff. At some of the islands, first of all there is no such thing as a "private" becah, they're all public. And secondly, sometmes the locals can give you quite a hassle, either trying to sell you stuff, or, if you're a hot babe, they could take the art of "not taking 'no' for an answer" to a new level.

My vote would be Mexico, or Belize (a little less upscale but the same beaches), or even Costa Rica

If you want a great resort-oriented relaxing tropical vacation, you should check out Beaches Resort in Negril, Jamaica.

http://www.beaches.com/main/ng/ng-home.cfm

The resort is amazing and very kid-friendly. It has its own waterpark for the kids and it is next to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville (for the adults). The white sand beach is the among the best I've seen.

The town is not great but there are excursions available such as Dunn's Falls in Ocho Rios which I would highly recommend for a day outing.

Wherever you choose to go, have fun.

I know that the caribean coast of mexico looks nothing like BC...it's the spots that are on or close to the rockies that I'm not interested in...had a frien go last year..I've seen the pics..not tropical enough.

Thanx for all the info guys!

Opps. LOL. Obviously I read it too quickly. Okay, in that case I recommend the all inclusive Beaches Boscobel. If you have a little baby, daycare and activities are available up until 5 Pm and a nanny is available after that for an hourly rate. There are programs for kids of all ages. Jamaica is so much fun! http://beaches.com Please note that all website prices are in USD. Not that it makes much of a difference now. LOL.

no worries, I figured you just missed it. Childcare will probably make or break it when comes to picking a resort..as much as I'm excited to do all kinds of family activites I also wanna do some things on my own.

My son is 17 months old..old enough to walk etc...so he may be a handfull, LOL!
